Salt lake-rock port 6/13
Fished salt lake this morning with my daughter. Water was glassy smooth with some cloud. We threw dead shrimp under a popping cork. Caught 5 hard heads, a small black drum and tons of small hits. I’ve never fished this area before so fished in between the islands along the reef ridge, any tips for t...

Re: You fish offshore in a kayak? ...are you crazy???
btb fishing has a very different and fun aspect to it than other forms of fishing. Bay fishing is more active, more calm and peaceful. Fishing from a boat can get u some big fish on a more consistent basis. BTB is great because catching large fish from a smallish vessel supplies a strange form of ex...

Re: One technique I found out to prevent TURTLING
i follow these 2 rules.
never go out on 3-4 seas
and always use the break and paddle technique as listed above.
I haven't turtled in years following the above 2 rules on my perception search.

Re: Mayhem at McFaddin!
It was good fishing near you guys. I was the guy with the red and yellow perceptions search. All was dead for hours except some of the biggest sharks i've ever caught. At around 1pm, i went in to 6 feet of water and the madness began. Called the rest of the group and it was bull red after bull red.

Re: Skunked BTB
to be fair, not counting bull run at high island, you generally get skunked a whole lot more often btb than in the bay. BTB gets quality, but less quantity, atleast from my experience.

Sportsman help
We rented a home on sportsman rd, but I'm not too familiar with the area. Tried to fish confederate reef, but casting to the middle of no where seemed hopeless. Was using perch and shrimp and only got hoardes of trash fish.

tarpon from a kayak is still in my dreams. as much as I hate getting seasick, as Jerry maguire would say, getting a tarpon would complete me.

Re: re-entry was rough
when you know the water is rougher than you'd like, ask your fishing partner to stow all of your gear in the front hatch of the kayak, rods included (unless you have a rod pod, then you probably won't even need help.) But once your nice gear in stowed away, it takes alot of pressure off of re-entry,...

Drum Bay 3/23
Launched at daylight this morning, saw a few kayakers out there. Fishing was steady and caught about 6 or so rats. I had to work the bay more than I normally would, but eventually ended up with a 17" flounder, 20" red and a 17" black drum. The fog must've made it colder than normal, a...

Re: Live bait vs plastic lures?
truth is, bait catches more. Sometimes the arti guys will straight up call it cheating and give you dirty looks, but it shouldn't bother you at all. Lately, i've went fishing less and less per year, and truth is, when I get to the coast, I like to catch fish. eating fresh fish is almost a requiremen...

Re: Has anyone noticed a pattern during shrimp season?
same old question each year, and i agree, has nothing to do with temps. On the 1st weekend upon shrimp season, nearshore is full of shrimp boats scouring the waters. I've never caught anything of value during this time period. Heck I can't even catch a shark, which is pretty sad actually. The water ...

great preview. can't wait for the video. dpham's humor is kinda like kramer on seinfeld. I'm not sure I'll ever love his humor, but you definitely get used to it, it grows on you. keep up the work man. this toddler has kept me landlocked for the majority of the year thus far.

Re: Why is croaker soaking frowned upon?
Makes me feel better that I went to the bay last week and fed my pet croakers some live shrimp. I was feeding so many 9" croakers that I had to run from some of my holes just to find a different hole full of croakers to feed. and considering i use standard size 2 hooks, not one 9" croaker ...

Re: Why Lift Anchor?
I only lift anchor for a couple of reasons:
1) I'm fighting a fish that is superior to my line test and he's starting to spool me. De-anchor and start getting some of that line back
2) My friend needs assistance (picture) and I don't want to lose where I was at.
