Re: mcfaddin 11/10?
I was cutting then into 4" chunks. I finished the day with 5 reds and a boatload of nasty-assed gafftop.

And then.......the gafftop reared it's slimy head. They epitomize the saying, "ants at a picnic"!

Swells are about 1.5-2'. Not killing them, but have caught 3 reds so far using cut mullet. Still on the water...more to come as the day proceeds. Oh yeah, sitting in 8' of water.

I'm so envious That's my dream fish. I'm taking off a week in October and headed down there for my first time ever with my friend Fishtales. I hope I have an outing like yours! Congrats

Re: Surfside Report 6/2......what a day
Holy crap, that was one hell of a day. I ended up turtling for the first time in my BTB career on my way back in. It was supposed to be a calm day according to the weather, LIES!!! I took out the x-factor I just bought for the first time and learned really fast that it doesn't hack the surf re-entry...

Re: 5/13 McFadden- swimming with the sharks
I've had to re-enter ONE time and it was in rough weather. I was friggin wore out and called it a day once I got back in the boat. There was no graceful side re-entry either...it was shove my FnD back under my fat a$$ from the front of the boat!

Has anyone targeted BU's in the channel yet?
For some reason, I haven't seen any black drum reports from the Galveston Ship Channel yet. Are the BU's running yet?

I've been using a Tekota 800 for at least 3 years now BTB and it's never failed me. Great reel for the application.

Keep your eyes on the water is all I can say. Went bull redfishing with my brother out there and came in to catch one more thing...a glimpse of two men having sex over the tailgate of a truck. BLECH!!!!

Awesome bull shark. What a pig! I've hooked into a few big big bull sharks and they always have one of the most aggressive headshakes out there.

Re: Meacham Pier - Gilchrist, TX
I fished Meacom's my entire childhood all the way into my early twenties. Caught my first bull red there when I was 17 years old. I always liked it better than the Dirty Pelican as it had a better variety in the store and felt wwwaaaaayyyy more stable. I felt like I was going to fall through the boa...

Re: Releasing Sharks
I can get my hook back 90% of the time by crimping down the barb. I have the longest pair of needle nose pliers (12" long) that I could find and use them to get the hook out, even when it's down the sharks throat. The key is, don't try this on a shark that is still all full of piss and vinegar....

Try a Blood Knot. I spent time before my last trip perfecting this knot. Don't try and teach yourself while you are on the water, you will only get mad. Do it while you are watching TV or something. Blood Knot.JPG This is my favorite knot for this application. I've actually used in surgery to make ...

Re: Most reliable/popular BTB kayak out there?
I will say this much. My friend FishTales used a Pelican for YEARS BTB and never had a single problem with it. There is something to be said for how good your yak handles, but there's alot to be said about how well you handle your yak as well.

Re: the sot raptor is here!
I can vouch for the weight capacity of the FnD. I'm a fat bastard and I carry alot of gear and at no point does my boat ever feel unstable. As stated by others, when BTB, speed isn't the big factor...stability rules out there. I'm sure that your boat would probably smoke mine on a calm day, but lets...

Man, I would give 6 bucks and my left nut for a chance to fish down there, but it's one hell of a drive for me and my truck just crapped out so I'm driving a Ford Focus...not the best transport for a Cobra FnD. One day I'll make it down there.
