Re: Rendezvous, North Toledo Bend, Texas/Louisiana Border

Wouldn't miss it for the world. Everything about it is Great; the food, the fly tying, the fellowship, the atmosphere, it's all good. If you've never been, you definitely need to add it to your list of things to do. If you have attended in the past, you sure want to repeat the experience.

Re: Getting into flyfishing

My suggestion would be to join a local fly tying club. You can get tons of information on equipment needed to fish, what types of flies are best to use, instructions on casting techniques and great fishing partners. In southwest Louisiana the place to be is the Contraband Fly Casters in Lake Charles...

The first two are made of floss (used in embroidery work) & the last one is made of artificial sinew (used by buckskiners to sew their buckskins together) Legs on these are rubber although I sometimes use bristles from a paint brush.

Well, there you go.
By the way the biggest bass I ever caught was when I ran out of live bate and picked a cotton ball up off the ground and put it on my hook. Honest.
But I won't be posting a photo of that spontaneous lure. :-)

Had a great time tying and lying. Met a great bunch from the Great Republic of Texas I did not already know and made some new friends in the process. The food was outstanding. Glad I was able to make the trip.

Re: Federation of Fly Fishermen

I plan on attending the Rendezvous on Toledo Bend to visit with some of my new IFFF friends I made in Mississippi. Your club is a good one with some great people in it, Warren Landry, Ron Forman, Fred Hannie, and others. We have all tied and become friends at the Conclave and Sowbug in Mountain Hom...

Re: Wasps, Bees, and Ants

Unfortunately, I can only warm water fish here in South Louisiana but I can go fresh or salt by the flip of a coin. Have never fished for trout other than Speckled Trout. Can't help with any suggestions for cold water Trout. :-( Good luck to you though.

Re: Federation of Fly Fishermen

I belong to Contraband Fly Casters located in Lake Charles Louisiana and we are a Charter Club as well. Have only made one IFFF function, the Gulf Coast Conference Fair in Ocean Springs but it was most enjoyable. I plan on attending the Rendezvous on Toledo Bend to visit with some of my new IFFF fri...
