Re: Academy is selling online now
WOW! Never thought I would see it. Academy is still family owned by a gentleman and his grandson. Iinterviewed with their corporate offices about 7 years ago as a graphic designer. I had asked then about taking them to an e-commerce site and was told, "We want to drive the customers to the stor...

Tries something new last week. Took some Garlic Croutons and blended them to a powder and used that instead of flour or cornmeal. Fan fried in a lime infused olive oil. Pretty tasty.

Ok, my wife loves these. I modify mine a bit. (Not a huge cabbage fan) Ingredients: 6 inch flour or corn tortillas Lard, as needed to fry the fish (Lard puts flavor in food) lightly breaded fish (1 1/2 pounds total) 3 cups shredded cabbage, romaine, iceberg or baby wild greens 2 cups of flour 2 eggs...

Re: Fish fry mix ????
Grew up on cornmeal mixed with some flour. Was commenting to a friend who owns a very good seafood restaurant about how good his fried fish and shrimp were and asked him what % of cornmeal he used. He looked at me like I was from Mars and said, "I don't use any corn meal. Never have and neithe...

Re: Easy to make kayak light
I can just see some river rat in a kayak with an a/c unit on top of their crate with an extension cord running to shore. Ok, that's good enough to fake that shot.Q400driver wrote: with everybodys pics of trailers, rigs, and homemade stuff, it wouldnt be hard to make an email like that!

Re: TPWD weighs in on "Kayak Registration"
The legislational process in Texas being what it is, this is an example of what occurs within the session. Our State Reps and Senators are only on the state hill part of the time. So all the bills are worked on when not in session. All bills are given a number as to what order they will be presented...

Re: VIDEO- BUDGET WAYS TO SAIL HOME AFTER LONG YAK TRIP
With a kite you can only go where the wind blows the kite. With something like an umbrella and a rudder you have a little more control of where you go. Academy sells an umbrella that 60" and it's rated for 50 MPH winds with a life time warranty. With my Hobie Quest and a nice wind I have gone ...

Re: VIDEO- BUDGET WAYS TO SAIL HOME AFTER LONG YAK TRIP
can you launch a kite like that from the seat of a kayak? That could be ideal for sailing. I've been saving my pennies and stocking away ideas for a sail system... I like that one! The para foils don't use any rods. Its just pockets of nylon fabric. So it's like putting several windsocks together. ...

Very nice. You know, sometimes I wonder if there will ever be an email that runs the internet about kayak customization like the redneck emails. Where you have A/C units sticking out of car windows, etc.

Re: Lake Woodlands Cleanup Idea..
I personally have seen very few rec paddlers out in my last couple trips to Lake Woodlands. I've braved the temps wearing waders but I know this isn't the norm. I think if we can hold off until March/April we can get more rec paddlers and Woodlands residents to take part instead of it being just th...

Just to make sure you guys make a fishing report. I won't be yak fishing and crabbing the BNC until around the 1st of April. I hate cold weather and cold water. Well, I loaded up last night. Yak on top of the Tahoe, checked all my gear and loaded that. Something in the back of my head said, " ...

Re: Fishing Logs
I know fishing journals are kind of custom to each fisherman. But if folks are looking to start one I can recommend use the Fishing Journal from Rite-in-the-Rain. One it's waterproof so if it dunks it's not a problem. You can write on it with anything but a felt tip pen and it wont wash off. They do...

Re: Baytown nature center?
I live across Burnett Bay from the BNC. Haven't fished it in about 3 months but lots of old piers to hunt around as well as some islands that separate Crystal Bay from the Ship Channel are pretty decent. Close to the power-line towers on the Burnet side has a trench that runs through I've caught bla...

Contact these folks and see if you can get Lake Woodlands added as an event. I do the clean up at the Baytown Nature Center. Yakke-T on the board here organizes it for the BNC.
