Re: Braid Loop Knot slips through eye of jig...

One easy solution is to tie a regular knot, such as a uni, to the hook eye but after cinching down go ahead and cut the tag and mainline off. Slide this old knot down to where the gap is and then go ahead and tie your regular loop knot on the eye. This provides a buffer so that the loop won't go st...

Re: Braid Loop Knot slips through eye of jig...

I use a loop for braid purely because of confidence. I feel anything that gives me confidence makes me a better fisherman. I prefaced that this might be a silly post...perhaps throwing the jig heads with a gap, out- is the true solution. Again, thanks for your responses.

Re: Braid Loop Knot slips through eye of jig...

I appreciate your response. I realize all of the things related to knots and lures and split rings and lines. I'm really trying to figure a way to crimp the eye of the hook . I'm not trying to change anyone's thinking of personal preference of lure knots and leaders and the like. Use what you use an...

Braid Loop Knot slips through eye of jig...

On Jig Heads, I always use a loop knot and I always use Braided line. I've had a few instances of my line slipping through gap on the eye of the hook-eye where it meets itself. I've only used Norton Spring lock heads because I really like them. However on some hook sets and a few fights of fish- the...

Re: Braid fishing line question

This has been covered a little bit above, but the absolute tightest you can spool your braid from the get go- the better. I have been using braid since around 1992, have tried all as they've come out over the years, mind you they were all white back then, and I mean ALL brite white. Still caught fis...

Powder Horn Lake 5/7

After 7 fishing trips with my Fly Rod and no fish to account for. I was starting to get a little concerned about how easy/difficult it was going to be to learn to Fly Fish. Originally I was supposed to be out of town this weekend for Mother's Day stuff, but the tide fell off the flat on that...I kne...

Out of Charlie's

Put in this morning about 7:45 and headed out to the bay through the cut and turned right. I skimmed along the outside for about a half mile or so between the break water and the island. Water was murky but bait was everywhere, and so were the Red's... I was out today to learn the Fly Rod and didn't...

ULM 4/28 Report

made the drive to bird island basin from victoria yesterday morning, launched and paddled down south for a mile or so staying on the launch side. water was 2.5 higher than what i've ever seen it there, but that could be luck of the draw. i dont check the tides as i go when i can go. got out on my fi...

I have two of those reels sitting in a box in the attic. I loved those reels, smoothest drag I've ever felt to this day. Brings back memories galore. Nice pic.

Re: Fly Reel Questions

again, thanks for all the input. i decided to go with the litespeed 3.5 from lamson, my fly rods are custom made by myself. They are extremely light. I went out fishing on tues. and was toying around with the balance and feel of it, the reel was tilting the rod in a big way. btw this is not the lite...

Re: Fly Reel Questions

I appreciate the input. The fish will ALL be released, and I never even thought about the stress on a Redfish, good point though. Been a Bass fisherman all but the last three years of my life and I do worry about stress on them, so why not give the red's the same respect. Now I need to make the choi...

Re: Fly Reel Questions

Ok, so a large arbor reel gets more line quicker on the reel. This just gets the fish to you faster? Get a 7/8 to have another reel for my 8 wt. Is it important to get the fish to you faster? I guess, what I'm seeking is the balance and lightness of my setup. Would the size of the larger arbor reel ...

Fly Reel Questions

Hi guys, Back in June I posted how I had just purchased a new Sage 1880 Reel, and hadn't even made my rod for it yet. Well the Rod is finished and I'm all set to go. It's been a whirl wind of a summer and I haven't been able to make it out yet to try and catch my first fish on a fly. I will in a cou...

Re: Ceramic Bearings??

Great feed back from everyone. I do always tear down my reels completely, and I mean cpmpletely. I clean oil and grease whats needs what, them slap them back together. I'm not having any trouble with anything about my reels, I just want to give em a try. Curiousity is mostly the reason. Again, thank...

Ceramic Bearings??

Ceramic Bearings are something I want to give a try. I have All Shimano Reels and was wondering if anyone here uses them, and if so- where to purchase them. I suppose a Ceramic Bearings in the correct size is really what I'm after. I live in Victoria, and am not sure if they have them anywhere in to...

Re: My buddy's electric paddle...

I'm not sure of the actual speed, but it is faster tan I can paddle for any great length of time, and that's with two boats and all the gear. If it was just Titty and his gear, no way to keep up at with him, period.

Tiddy, you've done enough fishing in your life-time for everyone here, and not near nuff welding. It's the nature of the beast called old age. What size jump suit do you want for christmas? Color is obviously blue, with a gold buckle.

Re: My buddy's electric paddle...

Yeah, he registered it, got the TX numbers on. And to answer the question above - yes he has a kick up feature if he hits something. As for the extra weight, to hear him tell it, he doesn't mind the weight since paddling is optional now. We went out Friday morning to do a fish/test run. He got all o...

Re: Bird Island Basin again 8/15/09

Bird Island Basin is in Corpus. Take the SPID to where it meets the park entrance, take your first right after you pay to get into the park. That road leads to the wind surfing area, you can launch from there.
