Butchering Catfish
Fellas and Ladies I needed some vacation bad, and finally took some last week. My boys and I went to some family land and had a bunch of fun. Shot bows, shot rifles, checked game cameras etc. We also caught some big old channel cats and I felt like a beginner trying to clean them. I've filleted tons...

Dirty Mouth--Our Week on the Colorado
I was so pumped about fishing some green water under fishing lights with my boys, we rented a house on the Colorado. Then it rained a ton the week before and turned the river brown. One trout, one puppy drum, and this ugly thing on live shrimp. http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc371/Scopolamine1/...

Kayaking around the Jetties--what's biting?
Today it appears the ocean will be calm and I was thinking about heading to the Jetties in Matagorda to see what's biting. I know sheepshead are around, what else? I'm planning on throwing artificial or maybe live shrimp.

Re: Galveston in April
Where you fish will determine your catch. If you are a bass fisherman, you have many of the skills needed to catch speckled trout, flounder and redfish. If you are catfish guy, you have a good skill set for surf fishing. . Fishing in the surf, increases your chances shark, but the surf needs to be s...

Re: A Cooler Full of Shame
Gafftop fillets are similar to freshwater cats, very good eating. Hardheads have a slight gaminess to them that I find pleasant and very interesting. They really don't taste like anything else that I've caught in the Gulf. Hardheads won't be my first choice, particularly if the big 3 are around, bu...

Re: A Cooler Full of Shame
The size of the fillet was what was most disappointing. The threat of a painful finning is not quite worth the small fillet it produced. That said, if I had promised a fish fry, and had a bunch of folks counting on me--I would keep them again to just insure enough meat. But it certainly made for a f...

No way man, this isn't hijacking. This is showing me how it's done. Inspiring. I'm wondering whether to start with live bait or lures.
Snacks and short excursions-- good advice. As well as pfds. Looking forward to watching him battle a redfish! Keep posting those pics!

Kayaking, and Kids-- Cure for Lonely Fishing: Thanks Mark!
I want to say thanks to a fellow TKF'er, MidCoast Mark, for selling me two fine kayaks for my family. We couldn't wait for my call weekend to end to give them a shot, and while not exactly in fishy looking water, we had a good time and can hardly wait to give them a shot in the bay when warmer weath...

Re: Blue crab question..
Put them in the vegetable crisper section of your frig. They will go dormant. When you need them, put them on the floor. Works especially well when you have guests over for dinner. You can put leashes on the crabs and take them for a walk while you drink your wine. "Come on , boy, HEEL!" ...

Drago's Char-Broiled Oysters are Amazing!
So when I asked how to cook my haul of oysters my son and I got the other day, some form of Drago's Char-broiled oysters was the overwhelming recommendation. Re: Oysters!
Nice article there AOS. Daughter had a house warming party where she bought a bag of rocks. As the party night drew closer, I found out that I was to get some shucking knives and gloves AND do the shucking. I learned how to shuck that night along with my youngest son, 27 years old. I will admit tha...
