Re: Using the gaff on bull reds
I've used a gaff for securing bulls to allow easier/safer hook-removals and generally agree that the technique has plenty of merit; BUT be aware of TPWD's regs concerning the use of gaffs. "Fish landed with a gaff MAY NOT be below the minimum, above the maximum, or within a protected length lim...

Re: Coyote Hunting Help
As for the M44 that sounds cool don't you have to be licensed to use these. I wonder if you can use them inside certain city limits and if pets could be harmed since that is what the OP seems to want to avoid. i am on almost 15 heavily wooded acres..i shot a big coyote the other day..... head to th...

Re: Coyote Hunting Help
Treble hooks? Geesh! Civil words escape me, but Hirsch coveyed my basic thoughts. I hunted, trapped and snared yotes throughout my youth - usually to protect livestock, but also for their pelts. I've witnessed yotes devouring a partially birthed calf, causing the valuable cow's death too. Even so, I...

I'll 2nd Dux20. I just received 15 Kershaw Scallions ($37.16/ea on Amazon) that will become gifts after I they're laser-etched. I've carried one for 2-yrs (clipped). Holds an awesome edge. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q47/CypressAg83/Kershaw12-0109_zpsca03e619-1_zps919d85ce.jpg I've been carry...

Re: Video editing?
The Flip HD camera includes its own editing software that installs directly from the camera. Once installed, the software should launch every time the camera is reconnected to the host PC (enabling file-transfer). The software allows you to take the Flip's raw videos and chop them into multiple segm...

Re: Mystery Fish ID Request - Armand Bayou
That's where learning how to use a camera can help, so you can "blur" the background (by decreasing DOF with wide-open aperture setting). Having good equipment really helps, but isn't a necessity. As the old saying goes, "the photographer takes the picture, not the camera." I re...

Re: bass fishing question about drifting
The anchor in these photos (a 4 lb lead-filled & rubber-coated pipe-nipple) is heavy enough to hold a yak in position, except under windy conditions. An eye-bold is embedded/recessed within the anchor, which allows it to pivot horizontally while secured. Releasing the rope from the pinch-cleat (...

Re: Guides .... I just don't know what to say
I've usually had very good experiences with guides; plenty of fish if the fish were biting, good conversation, usually both. But, there's one PB guide out of Pt O that I'll NEVER use again. Three years ago in San Antonio Bay, with four people in my party, pre-dawn, he dumped a pair of us on one shel...

I have no welder - but I gotta saw..... I built the the rear support from 2x4s, and used the metal headache rack for the front support. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q47/CypressAg83/DSC03321.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q47/CypressAg83/DSC03323.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...

Well, I guess if you can't weld, it's a safe bet you can't weld aluminum, but this is something I threw together a few years back: I've been really happy with it, it's all one piece but I can load it by myself in a matter of minutes, no rust to worry about, etc.: The lockable rod rack has come in r...

Re: Fish ID help?
Hey guys I think I got it. I now believe it to be a goldeye. It was hard to find. Seems now fly fishermen are going after it and most other anglers dont pay attention to it. I had fun catching it. It jumped, it looked mean and my spinning rod had a blast. No different than a white bass. Thanks all....

Re: Minnow Trap ??
Not sure how others position the bait in the double-funnel traps. But, I use a canister (like what holds 35mm film, if you can still find any) suspended in the middle of the trap by a string tied to opposing sides. Keeping the bait away from the trap's edge seems to make 'em look harder for the entr...

You probably shouldn't wear that floral Hawaiian shirt.
