What a fantastic trip!
I have never been BTB, but this seems like a great opportunity for a beginner.
The group was lucky to have someone put forth the effort to organize, plan, and help.
Good job!

Re: BBW River Ranger 14 build
Still needing: Paint the red stripe. Finish rigging deck bungees. Add some storage. Make rod / paddle leashes. Finish gunwale. I have a piece of red oak that I am going to put on the gunwale with screws. I will attach any accessories to this and will be able to remove or replace it later. ----------...

June 5, 2020 - Rigging.
I decided that I wanted invisible hatch closures. I found a way to do that at the CLC website.

Mounted the rod holders.
Drilled holes for grab handles.

June 1, 2020: Time to VARNISH!!!!! :D I bought two coats of Interlux Schooner varnish. I have never varnished anything in my life! There were other less expensive products out there, but I was hoping for something that would cover up my inexperience. (Wishful thinking). I do have a box store HVLP sp...

Re: BBW River Ranger 14 build
May 2020: I added another 2 coats of graphite epoxy mixture to the bottom. Before, I had the graphite coating about 3 inches up the sides and around the bow and stern. I sanded that off and painted that area green. I intend to add a small red stripe above the green next to the natural wood at some p...

Re: BBW River Ranger 14 build
May 2020:
Had to add another fill coat to the deck hatches.
Oh... but wait....
While flipping the boat, one of the hatches fell on the floor. I did not pick it up immediately and guess what?
I stepped on it and broke it. Another repair.
Then sand for a final coat of epoxy.

Re: BBW River Ranger 14 build
May 2020: Ran out of epoxy that I had purchased in 2011. Had to buy more. I decided to use MAS epoxy for non-blushing and ease of re-coating. But, as my learning curve goes, it only works well if you do it correctly. When I put on the decks, I laid fiberglass tape along the seams inside and out. How...

April 2020:
I needed to add more epoxy to the whole boat, so sanding was in order. Made myself a sanding board which really helped.
Also had to attached the two decks.

Re: BBW River Ranger 14 build
March 2020: Installed the rails for the seat. I made them so that I could fit 2 Plano 3650 tackle boxes underneath. Drilled some holes for seat adjustment. The seat bottom is a piece of plywood with some aluminum 1" angle iron attached. The seat is a stadium bleacher style seat that I bought in...

Re: BBW River Ranger 14 build
:D I have news! I finally finished this boat!!! It has taken me sooooo long!! Before I could have room to work on the boat, I had to remodel my shop. I didn't have time while I was working. I retired March 2019, so now I could get started on the remodel. Finally got the shop in order in January 2020...

Re: BBW River Ranger 14 build
I wanted to ask you guys about epoxy in cold weather.
Will it cure correctly in temperatures between 32 and 45? I am using 3:1 epoxy.
That is one of the excuses to myself for not doing more work on it.
Thanks for the support!

OMG!!!!
I can't believe that guy jumped on that kayak!!
Okay. Point made. The SOF kayak is VERY DURABLE!!
How difficult are these to make relative to a S&G kayak?
Last question. Where do you source your plans?
Thanks.
Tom

Re: Number 11 Skin-on-Frame
Very nice. I love the light weight of those.
The SOF kayaks seem very breakable to me. (If it can be broken, I can do it)
Does the skin break easily? What kinds of things does a user have to watch for with these?
btw.. Love the dog!
