Re: Anyone else make it out today?

I left out of port A with intentions of meeting up with a friend in kayak at the MP rigs, but it was a little rough for a 5 mile journey on jetski. Trolled around a marked shipwreck near the jetties and caught a shark around 4 foot, 3 keeper smacks, and lost a few more. Smacks were busting the surfa...

Re: Sunday - Surfside buoys

Let me clarify guys. I did not at any point say there was a sustained 6-8 ft swell, that would be nuts! The sustained swell was 3-4 ft. I was not in kayak, as I posted earlier. My guess was a SW swell, SSW wind. I was trolling around the buoys at the dredged channel. On the Western side, the swell w...

Definitely not the point of the thread.

Can you tell how big the swells on Cuba are from your beachfront?

Re: Sunday - Surfside buoys

Look around at other reports from offshore today, most people agree, sustained swells of 3-4 ft. It's called "constructive interference" that causes waves to stack up...... You were out there to call me out today?

Care to explain? The waves really stack up at times around the dredged channel.

Re: Sunday - Surfside buoys

We went out today, not sure what the weather people were smoking... I guess I shouldn't be surprised :horse: . Launched at sun-up and headed for green water, the color line was at about the first buoy. Trolled around out to the second/third buoy for kings but it was too rough to stick around long, a...

Me and a buddy are planning to go out there, he's running a Pro Angler, not sure where he's launching. I'll be trying out my seadoo launching from the coast guard station. I have a VHF, channel 69. My rig is white, orange, and black.

Just at McFadden, beach has weed and wind is probably 10 mph right now. Dp seemed like a lot of soft sand. Going to check just east of rollover for some better beachfront

Sounds good! Hopefully I can find a beach pass this time, they were sold out last weekend... Said some guy was coming in buying 10 at a time?

Either way, DP or Mcfaddin works for me as long as the beach isn't too rough!

Re: McFaddin or Dirty Pelican Tomorrow Morn 4/26

I should be at High Island in the am, likely fishing from shore as I don't seem to have much luck with wind forecasts. Planning on showing up early to soak some baits while still dark. May or may not have kayak lol. I drive a grey Subaru WRX with either a blue kayak or a big lightbar on the roof. Fe...

Finally got around to finish watching the Redfish marsh dvd. I had to watch it about 2.5-3 times in total to take in the information, its packed full! I'm not from Texas, so a lot of the information was counter-intuitive (like fishing the shoreline with wind blowing against it, rather than the prote...

I'd take all of that info with a grain of salt, it seems like Greenpeace had a hand in helping to create the video. I'm a ship designer by trade, and designed (various parts of) a factory freezer trawler for my last 2 years in school. The dimensions and holding capacity of those trawls are very atyp...

Re: Good kayak roof rack?

I bought the Yakima HD Whispbars, the entire setup was pricey, but worth it. There are tie down spots on the outsides of the bars, so they can be used for multiple purposes (carried my kitchen table on my roof when I moved), and they have rubber on the top, so if you want to strap your kayak upside ...

Nice! I was between the highway and McFadden (dark grey subaru with blue kayak on top), was fishing from the beach and yakkin' out baits, caught lots of gaftops and not much else. I'd toss a bait out and catch a gaftop within 2 minutes every time! Started yakkin' em out further but same luck! Was li...

KHOU says he went 4 miles, then tied the shark to the back of his kayak to try to keep and get mounted. I think the scariest part was that he did it in a Pelican kayak  http://www.khou.com/news/local/Shark-drags-fisherman-on-kayak-4-miles-out-into-Gulf-221239241.html" onclick="windo...
