Aransas Pass 2/13/2016

My 14 year old daughter, who always declines my offers to go fishing.... Asked me last night to take her fishing  :D Fished Eastshore/BR Flats. Live shrimp under popping cork. Her first cast... The biggest hardhead I've ever seen! She was very excited. We then had nonstop action on dink trout...

Indian River Lagoon, FL

Anybody here ever fish The Space Coast area in Florida?

I've been googling and it looks pretty nice.

There's a small chance we might relocate to that area
(Melbourne, Sebastian, Vero Beach, etc)

Thanks for any info.

Re: Ocean Prowler 13

The Prowler 13 is an awesome kayak for the money.
The seat is terrible, but if you do a lot of wading it's not too bad.

The width is a wee bit narrow @ 28".
I'm 5'10 @ 180lbs and it seems plenty stable to me.

It tracks well without a rudder and is fast too.

Met up with a fellow TKFer, Phujiak. We launched at GISP and paddled all over looking for fish. Lures used were an assortment of gulp and saltwater assasins. Here's Paul with his first ever redfish  He caught this guy with a chartreuse paddle tail in about 18" of water. Thanks for a fun d...

Re: Need a fishing buddy...

Report from this morning's fishing trip: I got skunked! lol Lots of fog and my grand plan never seemed to play out  I put a few miles on the boat and saw some cool wildlife, so it wasn't a total fail I reckon. I'll be ready to rumble this weekend if you're up for it 8) Now excuse me while I go...

Re: Need a fishing buddy...

I'm off of work the 15-17th if that's the weekend you're referring to. I plan on fishing all 3 days, unless some sort drama arises with my job or wife & kids, etc. Are you more interested in live bait fishing or artificials? For the first trip, I would focus more on getting familiar with the kay...

Re: Need a fishing buddy...

Howdy, welcome back to Texas :D I live in Ingleside and fish in the areas you mentioned. You are more than welcome to fish with me any time. I'm not a noob, but not exactly a fish slayer either lol. I have good days and bad days, but generally don't get skunked. I work long and crazy hours so will b...

Aransas Pass 12/20, 12/21

Fished B&R Saturday, Stedman Sunday. Bait was live shrimp; free-lined and under a popping cork. Average water depth fished was 2-3'. We caught a ton of dink trout and rat reds. After what seemed like the hundredth undersize fish, I switched to a Tuxedo Cocaho and managed a 15.25" trout :o N...

Re: Pedal Kayaks and Sciatica

I have a history of psychotic nerve problems. I'm currently using a Native Slayer Propel and have had no problems so far. My old yak had a traditional SOT seating arrangement and the longest I could stay in it was about 90 minutes. The new setup is like a slice of heaven. No nerve pain, no numb butt...

Stedman Island Question

I was wondering about the North Side of the island.

Appears to be some kind of boat launch and a dock of some sort.

Does anybody know what this is or if you can launch there?

Thanks

Aransas Pass 11/7/15

Uncle came down from San Antonio and wanted to go yakin despite the ominous weather forecast. He's a live bait guy, so we used croaker and artificals. We stayed very close to shore due to the cold front coming. Fished the sailboat channel along 361. No hits/runs/errors until the front arrived ~0800....

Re: Recommendations for a Budget 12'ish yak?

Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 @ Academy for $699. I bought one to use for friends/guests and have been very happy with it. It's the same width as the Perception and an extra 16" long. The boat is very fast and tracks great. Plan on replacing the seat, because it pretty much stinks. Other than that it'...

Re: Brown and Root flats, Red tide?

I haven't been out since the big rain, but a friend was fishing the day before the storms.

He didn't see any dead fish, but said he had some coughing/eye irritation.
Also said the fish weren't biting.

How was the fishing today?

I should be able to go tomorrow morning, will report on my findings.

Re: Port Aransas weekend 23 Oct

It's looking like a tough weekend to fish. Supposed to rain here Wed-Sat. That, plus boat traffic/muddy launch areas/duck hunters is going to make it difficult. I've got an Uncle coming down to fish and have been wondering what the heck we are going to do. Weather permitting, we're going to launch a...

Tide: High/Falling Wind: 5mph ESE Launched from The Aransas Pathways Swan Lake area at 0645. This was my first time here, it's very nice other than having to drag your yak so far to reach the water. I fished James Bend. Started out shallow, throwing a red/white Top Dog. Was hanging lots of grass, bu...

I am trying to figure out the "reef" you are speaking about. There is a dark spot on Google Maps about halfway between Fin Feather and the East Shore. I have attached a screen shot and the area I am speaking about is marked by a red oval. Is this the reef? I appreciate your help. I think ...

Wind 2-5 ENE Tide: Bottom half falling Launched in darkness @ 0640 and at daylight a huge fog bank rolled in. It was super heavy, but only lasted about an hour. There was around 6-12" of water on the flats, I noodled around for a bit then noticed a lot of bait activity deeper, towards Eastshore...
