Re: Whitebass
They come to lights at night in all the highland lakes. We used to catch them in the summer from a boat dock at a camp on Lake LBJ - same with the lighted pier at Inks Lake SP. The pay fishing piers at Kingsland can be great jigging for them at night, good in the summer, and great when they're stag...

Re: SOT Fishing Kayaks Recommendation
Well for starters, what do you like and dislike about your Tarpon 100 and 120?
Are you wanting to be able to stand?
What is your budget?
What are your 2 biggest "must haves"?

exactly my thinking as well. I didn't want to be disappointed after spending 80 bucks on a line I didn't really like. Thanks for your input Ron

Thanks for all the input guys. Lots of good info to digest. I ended up picking up some SA Mastery GPX 8 wt line for 30 bucks at Cabela's. I mainly bought it for the price so I could buy a new setup as well.

Re: What is your favorite fly line but more importantly why?
Hands down, my favorite lines are Airflo Ridgelines. Supple Tactical lines are my go-to coldwater and warmwater floating lines - soft enough for cane and glass rods. Why? They zing through the guides like they're on Boca bearings. I also have a couple of their intermediate sinking "slime lines...

Re: What is your favorite fly line but more importantly why?
Karstopo thank you for the great response. I've enjoyed reading your contributions to this forum. Do you think the performance of the sharkwave titan taper outweighs the negatives you listed? Have you tried any other Rio lines? Do you think the dirty factor extends to other lines made by them? off t...

What is your favorite fly line but more importantly why?
So I started fly fishing about two months ago and I'm learning quickly that this is a sport where the old adage, "you get what you pay for" really applies. Saltwater reels above 200 for medium quality and fly lines around 80 bucks. Don't get me started on rods. I was hoping to start a disc...

Re: Native Watercraft Slayer Propel 13 Angler
Yeah it was definitely an unexpected inconvenience. Unfortunately, I was not able to straighten the rudder since one side of the cables were still intact and it was a rental so I didn't have any tools to just remove the rudder completely. I think the rudder on this kayak would deter most people if t...

Re: Native Watercraft Slayer Propel 13 Angler
I thought the kayak was very stable and enjoyable but the rudder setup would stop my from ever buying this thing. One the turning radius sucks on it secondly, it was awkward and very heavy to load and finally, no way to retract the rudder. I was on one about a mile from the launch and the rudder ste...

Re: Your thoughts on fishing the home owners canal lights
I fish a lot of canals at night and have had most home owners be nice and ask me how my night is going. That said if I see someone there or at a neighboring dock I will not fish it. I can go to any canal but they are locked to one light. I have also had those ass holes that just want to start shit. ...

Re: SLP Thurs & Fri
Nice report. Sucks about the stringer though. When you say you camped out did you set up a camp or did you just hang out on the shore a while. I ask because I'm looking to pitch a tent somewhere this coming weekend but am unfamiliar with camping areas. I don't want to camp right on SLP because I hea...

Re: TroutSupport Deal Alert - Harvey Hangover
I have found the VMC hooks to be more available than the Owner and the VMC brand is one I really trust for saltwater corrosion resistance. I too have found that the Owner hooks rust rather quickly. I will look for the VMC next time at the tackle shop. Hopefully they have them otherwise I'll put in ...

I WILL NOT be buying your DVDs....Because I already own all four of them and love them. Definitely took me from the saltwater n00b I was to a mediocre saltwater fisherman in a short time. It has also given me resources to continue to learn. I pick something up each time I watch them. They are so pac...

Re: Tomorrow morning?
I went out sunday morning and yes the wind was brutal. In addition to the wind we were dealing with duck hunters. I ended up taking home two large flounder and caught quite a few more. Was targeting marsh cuts on the outgoing tide. Bit was slow until about 9-10 am. Sorry about losing your go...

I am down for a houston/galveston area casting clinic! I feel I am above average when it comes to casting and accuracy but I am always looking to improve. Additionally, meeting you in person after you've helped me so much will be a delight. Thought about football fields? That way we have 5 yard mark...

Time to watch those red DVDs again. Or rather stream them while at work
I caught reds and an alligator gar sunday in a back lake. The reds were up on the shoreline with some sheepshead as well. The gar was about 200 yards off the shore in about 4 ft of water.

Re: Jamaica beach info
Yaklash - I was off that shore about a year ago and saw a truck parked in the area that you may be talking about. There were a few rods on the beach off the point. The truck was about where the arrow is on the picture. So it was accessible then. It is a sandy shore and so easily kayak launchable. I...
