Who uses rod floats?
I use rod floats here. They come 3 to a pack for $8. I get the smaller size -- even for my baitcasting setups. Best investment on my kayak. I would have lost $300+ on Saturday when I unexpectedly snagged my GLoomis E6X and Tatula combo on a branch that was just a bit too low. Pulled right out of my ...

Re: best anchor
I used to use a small mushroom anchor (8#, I think). Had to cut one loose after a snag. Then lost a second one after I forgot to secure the line. Each one was around $10 from Academy. I've since switched to a 6# barbell purchased from a sporting goods resale shop. It cost about $8. I should have sav...

Re: Anchor Trolley side placement question.
My first kayak had the paddle holder on the same side as the anchor trolley. I'm right handed, and both were on the right side. Between the paddle, the paddle leash and anchor line, I always had a big mess. When I got my current kayak, I asked ACK to install the trolley on my left side, while I keep...

Re: Paddle Length survey ?
I have a Slayer 10 Propel, which is known to be a wide kayak at 34". I'm 5'10".
When I was on the water yesterday, a friend said, "Wow, that boat sits high on the water." And the seat is pretty elevated.
All that said, I am happy with my 240cm.

Re: Anchor?
I use a zig-zag cleat to hold my anchor line. But I also use an anchor trolley to position my anchor toward the bow or stern, depending on current or wind. You want to be careful if your anchor is perpendicular to your boat, as you will be more susceptible to taking on water and flipping. [img]http:...

Re: lightest kayak you can stand up in
Yes, it only comes with the Propel. I downsized from the Mariner 12.5 Propel, and the weight savings was huge for me. Translated into less time loading and unloading (I cartop alone). More fishing time. I love the yak. Michang5 is that a Slayer 10 propel you're talking about? I don't see the 10 with...

Re: Shimano Stradic FK
Each last letter denotes a model style/release/generation. In theory, each generation improves upon the previous. Sometimes, it's just marketing fluff, but Shimano does appear to introduce new features into each release. I have a 1000FI and a 1000FJ. I do think Shimano fixed some of the faults of th...

Re: Newbie-1st kayak question-Pro Angler or Slayer?
No offense intended, but you're going to get the same responses that every other PA vs Slayer thread gets. It's going to be like politics or religion. Each side will try to sway you, but ultimately the answer will be "demo demo demo." The nutshell is that both kayaks are top-notch. Slayer ...

If your budget can stretch, the Native Slayer 10 is 59 lbs bare. I can stand on it all day.

Slayer Propel 10?
Bug-e, here are a few answers: - Yes, I cartop the S10 on my Prius. I have Whispbars installed, but any rack would work. I just have the ACK bar covers, no need for rollers or saddles. It is super easy (and tons easier than my old beast of a Mariner 12.5). I lay down a moving blanket across my rear ...

Help with native rudder
Until recently, I owned a Mariner Propel 12.5. I didn't think the rudder was too bad, but I didn't think it was great either. From everything I've read and seen, the Boonedox is the best option. There are YouTube videos and forum posts of people bolting on DIY extensions, fabricating a flip-down rud...

Re: Slayer Propel 10?
Taking out the drive is fairly easy. There is one locking bracket that takes a second to flip. However, I seldom lock it because without it, the Propel has some give if you hit something shallow. There is a cover/cup holder that has two bungees that lock into four clips. You don't have to lock this ...

Re: Slayer Propel 10?
Thank you. I do not fish the salt. I would definitely do some research on how the Propel Drive would handle it. I've seen some negative reviews in the past, but it seems like many of the issues have been resolved. http://nativeownersgroup.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ...

Re: New stradic 1000fj, help choosing rod/line
Agree with b737.
I started with 20# PowerPro Super 8 Slick on my spinning gear. No problems with wind knots.
I switched to 10# PP S8S and started having wind knot problems.
Settled on the 15# PP S8S as a compromise. Better casting distance with very few (to no) wind knots.

Re: First trip in new mariner took on water and turtled!!
I owned a 2011 Mariner 12.5 Propel for almost a year. I always had those scuppers under the seat plugged. In fact I had all of my scuppers plugged 95% of the time. Only exception is when I went out in a rainstorm. I unplugged the two from my feet to let the rain water drain out and then plugged them...

Re: PFD (life jacket) Questions
Go to Academy and get the $80 Onyx inflatable PFD. It can be set to deploy automatically and/or manually.
It pretty much has no back cushioning to get in your way. I often forget that I'm wearing it.

Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
My first bass rig was a Sedona. Bail started to get sticky. Dunked it in local pond a few months later, and it was never the same. After taking it to a local shop and then futzing with it myself for an evening, it was never smooth again. Trashed it. Ended up buying a new Okuma Stratus DS from Dicks,...
