Re: MP report

Professor, you say the sharks love the diving plugs. Do you use any kind of wire leader or just mono with them? And if are able to get them to the kayak do you actually try to remove the hook or just cut and go like with a bait rig?

Re: Paddle Kayak Suggestions - HELP

OK, I think I am going to try the Viking Reload. It's tough to find anywhere to try out kayaks anymore. Either out of stock or no try em out events. So I am just going to buy a used one and if it's not the right one I will sell it and try again. I found a Profish reload Z with chill pod and electron...

Re: Paddle Kayak Suggestions - HELP

I was looking for the Viking Reload but its a little tough to find one out there. I heard Roys in Corpus might have one but it doesn't show the on website. Anyway, does anyone know what a new one runs? It helps so I know if the used price I am seeing out there is a reasonable one. I have seen a few ...

Re: Paddle Kayak Suggestions - HELP

Thanks for all the suggestions. I do like the look of the viking and especially the reload. Like I said, I am looking for a paddling kayak first but I know me well enough to know if I am on the water I will have a rod with me. I already have the nice seat on the hobie so I am willing to try the seat...

Paddle Kayak Suggestions - HELP

I am not exactly new to fishing or kayak fishing. I currently own a Hobie PA. I love it and I love kayak fishing. However, if you have ever been in this luxurious beast you know it was not made for paddling. So I am looking for a good paddle kayak. I like to try and stay in shape but I HATE going to...

Re: Oops

I bought the Osmo action about a year ago. Been doing great for me. It has pretty much all the same feathers at the GoPro and it has the front screen that GoPro 9 just showed up with. Same mounts so it will work with what you have. For the price difference it was a no brainer for me and I think it i...

Hey Blake. For all of us that are pretty new to the BTB scene could you tell us what sites you look at to get your information about surf, swell, winds, weather and all the other stuff. I think it would be a great learning experience to see what you are seeing and why you make the choice to go or no...

Re: BTB success - kind of...

Thanks. Hopefully I can get back out there again and see if I can do better. I will try increasing the drag a little on the lures. Also, I had a circle hook as the main hook instead of a j hook. Not sure if that matters. Most of my catches have been with the stinger hooks anyway. Has anyone used j h...

BTB success - kind of...

Went out a couple of days ago to the Mayan Princess rigs. It started out a little windy but no surf and minor swells. Calmed to lake like conditions later in the day. I am still pretty new at this to and learning a little each time I go. I basically just trolled lures (rat-l-trap, rapala magnum 20 a...

Re: Mayan Princess 6-30-19

It was a rough start to the day. I didn't head out til around 830 or 9 but it was still pretty rough. Like someone said it calmed a little around 1030. The swells were still pretty good size but at least the wind and its waves werent so bad. I was able to hook a king around noon. almost 40 inches. O...

When to go BTB

I am new to heading offshore and I am working at understanding the apps and websites to figure out when is a good time to go. I have been looking at windfinder.com a lot and tides4fishing.com. I know 20mph and 4ft wave height are not good from the windfinder app but what is the general cut off for g...

Re: Buying Used Hobie - Any advice on what to look for

Thanks for all the advice. I did take the plunge a few weeks back and bought a 2017 PA14. So far I love it. Still getting used to being close to the water and sitting a lot more but it has been fun. Every trip I learn a little more about getting around and how I need to move things around so it fits...

Got the Kayak, Where to take it?

Took the plunge and bought a used Hobie PA14. I have taken her out a few times around the Austin area and caught some largemouth but I am wanting to head to the coast and try the bays for some trout and reds. I was going to be in the Rockport / Aransas Pass area in June and was hoping for some help ...

Adding Fish Finder to Hobie Sail Mount

Has anyone put their fish finder at the front of their Hobie using the Ram wedge mount for the sail mount? I was trying to get the fish finder out of my way on the side rails but not sure how it would work to put it up front in the middle. If anyone else has done this I would love to hear your thoug...

Re: Long time fishing, first time kayaking

That's great. I am jealous kickingback. I think I am going to pick up a used 2017 PA14 this weekend. Have it set up to go look at it on Saturday. I think I am in the minority but I was hoping for the papaya orange one. The used one is dune.

Enjoy!!

Buying Used Hobie - Any advice on what to look for

I am looking to buy a used Hobie PA14. I have a few I have found to go look at. Any advice on things I should look for? Issues I should make sure it does or does not have? I am looking at 2017 or 2018 models so anything on the MD 180 that I might need to look at specifically? Basically any advice is...

Re: Long time fishing, first time kayaking

SWFinatic - thanks for the advice. Right now I probably will be putting it in and out of a truck. I am sure the excitement and newness of it all will overpower the weight for at least a few trips. I might be changing my tune after a long hot day on the water. The truck bed might be pretty high. :sho...

Long time fishing, first time kayaking

Joined a few years ago when I thought I was going to get my family into kayaking. Life happened! Anyway I am back and getting ready to get into the kayak world. I have been fishing since I could walk and I love every minute of it. Just tried out a Hobie Outback last week for a day on the Texas bay n...

Re: New guy - Looking for opinion on 'Yak

Thanks guys I think I might try to rent first then decide. I really liked the idea of the inflatable just for storage and packing considerations. Not sure I want a trailer.
