Re: Launch: Sportsman Rd. vs. 8 Mile Rd.

I've parked there more times than I can count over the last year and have not had a single problem. It's more convenient than the end of sportsman because you can launch and park at the same place (unlike walking back to the yak and truck like you have to do now off the end of Sportsman).

What is your wind cut-off?

Having a conversation with my buddy Kenny (Westendtroutassassin) and wondering what wind speed you gents decide to absolutely leave the kayaks at home. I might expose my rookie status here...but I would not go by myself with winds of 15+, but think I will go if it's 20 or less with a buddy. I would ...

I use one from wal-mart, but actually find it easier to let my eyes adjust to the dark.

Re: Sharks in the bay's

If you have a true fear of a shark attacking you or your stringer, I just wouldn't use one. True story: I was wading in between Jamaica beach and SLP last year with 3 reds and two trout on my stringer when I see a big swirl about 10-15 feet from me...thinking it was redfish I keep watching and waiti...

Re: Winter fishing

There is a thread about 10-12 post down that will give you a lot in insight. Also, the trout support DVDs will teach you years of knowledge. The biggest point I would give is this: find mud or mud and shell and you'll find more fish in winter.

Surf Tribe 9.5

Most guys I know that fish the surf in yaks say it's not launching out that's dangerous, but coming back in. It's the ride back to the beach where you need to be on your A game.

Re: So how do you fish the lights?

I like to anchor about half of my max casting distance from the light with the wind at my back. If there is current I position myself where my retrieve will go with the current. I've caught better fish on the outside edges of the light.

Re: Fishing in the rain.

The first thing I do when it's raining:
Expect to catch more fish.

Some of my best days have been rainy. I'm not a fan of high wind and rain and if I see lightning, I'm out of the water immediately.

My techniques don't really change. I would use darker color lures.
