Post by fishin' soldier »

Heading to the refuge in the morning. Anyone wanna tag along? Hitting the rocks first and as a backup will head to boat ramp. Caddillac Red you off? Brody? Supposed to be North winds. We will see ii the weather man gets it right. Looking to be ther around 7-730 if everything goes as planned.

Correction putting in at boat ramp around 730. Plan is making a long paddle fishing the shoreline on to robinsons.

OK since you two think the Refuge will be a good place to fish tomorrow....I'll give it a try, though I will be there much later....about 9:30 I think. Hope to see you.

I'll be in a 12 ft. Green (very green) Old Town canoe rigged up as a Kayak. Over the years....I've caught a lot of fish from a power boat...but none yet (Saltwater) from my Can-yak. She has helped me catch lots of freshwater LM-bass recently.....but I need a red to pull me around some. Hope I can improve on that statistic tomorrow.

Hey Rich - if you see this before you leave - head to the boat ramp - far western part of the refuge, second right after the the gate house (or what's left of it) and follow the winding road to the water. I have a red escape - if you see that you found us. I am pretty certain we will be heading west (take a right at the water) towards robinson lake - but it will depend on water and wind.

marc

oh yea, and fishing soldier and I have never caught anything worth keeping when we were together - so come at your own risk...

I'll give you a call when I get there. Once I am on the water, I do not take my cell phone with me. Still afraid I'll dump me and it in the drink thanks...hope I get to see you.

I won't be in the way... I'll back off and stay far enough away to not bother your fishing. thanks, Rich

Hmmmm.... seems like Robinson lake is more than four miles from where I think I will launch. Do you really paddle that far to get into it every time? Rich

Its not 4 miles but it is a paddle. You can catch fish all that down that shoreline. We will be launching early and heading west. Good luck and hope to see you.

Hope you made it well Rich. We were there earlya nd headed West. I ended up with 18" trout and 17" flounder. Brody caught some trout under soem birds after I left and had a 24" red already. Better report to come later. Paddled over 7 miles and had one helluva excursion. Tip: don't take shortcuts if you aren't 100% sure they are "shortcuts".

Well, I arrived late...about 9:30. The winds were howling out of the north..I'd guess 10-15 or 10-20. It seemed to me that the wind was going to push me off of the shoreline all day. I figured that I would spend most of my time paddling back into the wind..and then having to cast into the wind, too.

So...I put my waders on and wade fished the East shoreline for a mile or so. I fished it up and back and never saw anything alive, other than one crab. No swirls; no bait, etc.

I ran into two fishermen coming in from the bay with a small motor boat. They had two trout and two sandies total. They were caught under the birds.

Another kayaker came in from the East. He had fished for "a long time" he said. He had not had a single bite.

Sounds like you two were in the right place at the right time..I left about 12:30 trying to avoid the traffic expected at the airport. The 610 loop at 59 North was STILL closed from the morning's accident..which might have happened after you two were on the water.

Oh well, next time...I hope. Rich
