Can't say I'm so proud of this incident, but the outcome was better than it could have been and I am thankful.

While on a recent trip to Destin, FL area my buddy and I put the kayaks aside since it was so rough offshore and decided to try a little surf fishing...even a little "ladder" fishing.

Don't recall the exact sequence of events leading up to the hook in my eye, but somewhere in between jumping over the breakers and ducking under them as well as cleaning off the annoying "june" grass from our lines my new lure bounced up and landed just under my eye (yes I was wearing glasses!).

My buddy and I walked back to the cottage, and without alerting the wives or kids...got the bolt cutters, some tequila (for disinfectant ;) and the camera in order to document the removal.

Glad my eyeball didn't get it...and glad I am able to share this with fellow TKF'ers.

Enjoy.

P.S. Yes I did finally step into a medical clinic for a tetanus shot!

 This made me pucker up and my toes curl.

I remember the days of wearing the styrofoam hats full of mirrolures, jumpin minnows, and touts. I was always afraid of something like this happening to me whenever I got slammed by a big wave.

Glad you came away from that with only minor injuries.

You could have put a ring in it and started a new piercing trend. Ouch! Not for the squeamish!

Man, sorry that happened. My worst fear.

A buddies son was exiting the pb I used to own and snagged his shin on one of my very sharp texas rig worm hooks that was at the end of one off my rods. We were an hour and a half from the nearest ER and we didn't want his mom to freak out. We bought a bag of ice and the kid and I (brave little guy) melted ice on the spot where the hook was going to exit until it was numb. Took 15-20 minutes. When I pushed it though, he literally didn't feel a thing. This trick works, but works less effectivley on high-circulation areas.

You really got the guts. It made me remember of my youth when my brother got a treble hook stuck on his leg and this guy took us to a nearby hospital and the next thing I remember was myself waking up on a bench because I just fainted with all this situation plus the hospital smell...

Was fly fishing the Swift River in Mass - beautiful deep pool by the dam - had to use barrel casts because of all the trees and was picking up some big brown trout - and on a bad backcast, hooked a small Black Ant right below my right eye - 'bout the same place as yours. Went to Amherst and told them to cut the skin BUT DON'T MESS UP THE BLACK ANT!!!!

At least the lure was still in good shape, jk. Last summer I was fishing with a group who include my father n law, he has not fished since the 70's. We got out of the PB around sun up, so 630 700, we were all throwing top water. Next thing I know he is heading back to the PB. Thinking he caught a tagged fished we all ran back. Well apparently he got the she dog stuck in the grass and pulled hard at it causing it to sling shot at his face, he put his hand up and two of the three trebles got him in the pointing finger's knuckle. Now he does not throw top waters and cannot bend his finger all the way... what a fishing trip.
Hope you heal up fast, cause I’m sure the salt hurt more.

Very Hardcore....I'd be just drinking the tequila and heading to the hospital. Reminder to buy self some cheap full faced oakleys or better yet ski goggles when fishing! This is a worse fear for me and almost got hit in the face a few weeks back fishing from a boat with father in law! How hard he tries to set the hook you would think he was fishing for Moby Dick!

You had to go get a shot anyway, I think I would have let them give me a shot and get it out since I was there.

Glad to see your ok.

Destin Florida is great, it has to one of the very best fisheries in th US.
