Public Land Ducks

Post by artman23 »

I went out on Thursday for a solo trip to Justin Hurst to do some duck hunting. The morning was pleasant with clear skies. I loaded my gear on my back and walked out to my site. I threw out my decoys in record time and hunkered down. That's when I realized I had made a terrible mistake...I assumed the cold weather we had earlier in the week cleared out the mosquitoes. I was wrong! I sat in mosquito infested marsh with zero wind for an hour and a half. That was a true test of will, and I must say I was minutes from calling it quits. I'm glad I didn't though, shortly after shooting time the first single came swooping by and my #4's did quick work. I was able to get 1out two on my only double of the day, and the rest were singles. Overall it was a great day. All the action was early and I was able to pack-up and make it to lunch with my little boy.
