Three friends + 20 miles of Brazos river = AWESOME

Myself, Nate, and Jake all made the 20 mile journey down the infamous Brazos river. Jake and I got to the put in just below Possum Kingdom Lake dam at about 4pm after using the shuttle service from Rochelles. Nate was goign to be a couple hours behind us in his canoe. We originally had a few more people planned on this trip but people always seem to back out last minute on these trips. We still had a fantastic time. The scenery, fishing, and good company made the trip a great one. Plus the weather couldnt have been better. 90ish during the day and high 60's at night. And the water was just a bit cool but we still swam in it.

Nate finally caught up with us at the first nights camp about 4 miles down river. We fought 20 miles an hour winds most of the afternoon. This is the first nights camp.

Just about packed up and starting day 2. We covered a lot of miles on day two. I would guess about 9-10 miles. Winds were bad on several sections here too.

Day three turned out to be the best fishing day for me. I think I caught about 15 fish the entire trip but a lot of the trip was spent just paddling and enjoying the scenery. Day three also turned out the most relaxing because we ended up havign the wind at our backs. We pretty much floated the 5 miles to the take out with minimal paddling.

a picture worthy bass I caught. Its fun on light tackle and 4lbs test.

another smaller bass I caught right after the one picture above. Caught several of these guys as well as a couple smallies that were small also.

We are getting good at packing for these trips. We ate like Kings. The mountain house meals are pretty tasty. We also had lots of tortillas and some fresh avocados, tomatoes, and several snack foods. My MSR pocket rocket stove worked like a champ. We also used a katadyn water filter for most of the drinking water. The brazos is a bit mineral (salty) tasting. Nate did bring a cooler with ice, dry ice, and some cold drinks on his canoe. Both nights we drank plenty of Jim Beam and coke zero around the camp fire. I caught about 14-15 fish. I think Jake caught abotu the same and Nate was real close to that number too. Fishing wasn't fantastic but it was good. We used artificial lures only. I know I do much better on live bait but I didn't feel like dealing with it. I have to admit my feet are somewhat sore from walking on rocks while buzzing off Jim Beam at the camp site. You seem to forget what your walking on until the next day. I really enjoy going on trips like this. The scenery, fishing, and just getting outside with some great friends makes these trips memories that last a lifetime.

Those are some awesome pics bro  Man that looks like it was a fun filled trip glad yall had fun and got on some fish. But I bet just paddling and watching the scenery is worth the trip. That white house on the hill sort of looks like a boat flipped up-side down and converted into a house pretty looking. Once again TFS with us I hope to make a trip like that some time this year Hopefully :D

Well when your on a trip like this privacy is not something your worrying about. When we had to change all you had to say was hey Im changing dont look over here and that was it. The screen is great for the warm evenings. And if I added the rain fly it looks like a normal tent.

I was using road runners mostly. My buddy Jake was using a silver rattle trap and some plastic lizards. Pretty much anything will work out there. Bass arent picky eaters!
