Sabinal conditions???

Post by krackdawg »

Anyone out near the Utopia stretch of the Sabinal river have a river report. I have a trip scheduled next week and was curious about water level and flow. Thanks!

just checked USGS

The only flow reading they have is 26 cfs above Sabinal, but water level history upstream doesn't show any run-off spikes.
With so little chert, the Sabinal runs off so fast, it's good to fish 48 hours after a flood.

Between Vanderpool and Utopia it is about 1.5 CFS, so barely flowing. Between Utopia and Sabinal its about 13.5 cfs. I was on the Sabinal about a month ago and the flow between Utopia & Sabinal was around 8 cfs, so when you go stay around or south of Utopia and it should be OK. Oh, I would wade fish.

Thanks guys for the update. Heading there Monday for a week to fish the stretch mostly south of the dam in Utopia. Sounds like it’s flowing adequately for that to happen.
