Devils River Report

Post by Wolfman57 »

One of my bucket list rivers to hit has always been the Devils. Way remote and a little regulated river. But a absolute gem. Put in at bakers crossing and paddled al the way to Panther Springs in Amstead 40 miles 5 days. It as awesome. Max of 12 in a trip and we maxed it out.

Oh yea, nice trip. That is also on my list. Lived in TX all my life and paddle many river both in state and across the country and cannot seem to get that one done. Thanks for the video/report. To bad about the canoe. Was it a rental or private?

I’ve been trying to do the devils for years. Finally made it. Worth the trip.

River is not great for the canoe. It was not a rental. We’re going to have to replace it. Best for 12’ or less kayaks. Lots of sharp turns.

Water level was ok. Bakers was 71cfs which ideal should be 100. After Dolan it was better. Going into Amstead to the boat pick up was brutal. Really low water in Amstead must have been 15-20 rock drags due to low water. Best to take out at the SNA. But we wanted to do the full length.
