Lowrance Hook-4 CHIRP with downscan imaging

i purchased this a few weeks ago and is my first fishfinder. has anyone used these yet? was wondering if anyone had any special settings that they find to work best is certain environments, or are the default settings ok? is it best to have the screens side by side or overlay both on top of each other?
