Recommended Over-the-Side Transducer Depth?

Post by TexasJim »

How deep should a transducer be below the water surface, when you mount it over the side? I have an older B&W Humminbird 570DI that I will be using in very shallow inshore saltwater. I'll probably never see 30 feet of depth, even in the big boat channels. I don't have the installation instructions, and the online manual only gives operational info.

Any recommendations? TexasJim

Just deep enough to stay covered in the chop. I would set it up so it was just above the bottom of the side. Maybe an inch above? That would keep it out of any mud if you ran aground.
