fiberglas rod?

Post by Ken S »

I find myself in need a "pushoff/stakeout pole. Any place to pick up a fiberglas rod?

Try home depot and the like. I saw a 6 ft one for a couple of bucks.

I've made stakeout poles using 1/2"x5' and 3/4"x6' fiberglass tree stakes from Walmart (garden center). I found them on sale and didn't pay more than 3 bucks for any of them. I've found I like the 1/2"x5' better. Most of the time 5' is plenty (sometimes it's too much) and the smaller diameter rod pulls out of the mud a lot easier than the 3/4" does.

The pic is of the 1/2"x5' pole. I used 1/2" PVC fittings and 1/2" class 400 for the pipe. The class 400 can be found at HD or Lowes. It has a larger inside diameter than the schedule 40 does and fits nicely on the 1/2" rod. Used Marine Goop to glue it to the rod.
