High Island Terminology...explained

Post by Tyak »

Everyone gets confused about where we are talking about fishing. Between the piers, etc...

CABLE SLAB!!!!!!!!!!

Brooke and I have a favorite spot that has never let us down. We have NEVER not caught fish here. I guess you would call it East of Rocky's pier. There are 2 concrete slabs about 50-100 yards apart on the beach against the dunes. Even with them at the waterline, there is a huge rusted cable sticking out of the sand. The 1st entrance thru the dunes after the intersection of 124 and 87. Right on the beach about 1/3 to 1/2 way down.

So when we say we will be at the "cable slab" this is where we will be.

I think the place described is where I was on my first BTB trip when Mythman finally found me. I thought the pilings closest to 124 were one of the piers, as in 'between the piers'. At those strange concrete things sticking up out of the beach there was evidence of people having camped there recently.
MM had a good day out there just 150 yards out. Not so much for me, but I'm learning

So, the next pier west of there is Rocky's - right? And the next one west after that is Dirty Pelican?

If I am not mistaken I think the Eastmost set of pilings is referred to as Black's Pier by the locals. When I hear "between the piers" I think of between Rocky's (Meacom's) and the Dirty Pelican pier.
