Cabin recomendation

A cabin is my wife's idea of camping. I was at a KOA at Sam Rayburn this past week and they has some nice little cabins for rent. I was looking for a recommendation of similar places to stay.

Things needed:
Like a separate cabin and not a lodge (unless the lodge has a private patio or balcony for each room)
Pet friendly (we have 2 dogs)
On some kind of water with hiking near by (for dogs and us)
Would also like it to be around some type of hills but not necessary
We live around Houston so within a few hours drive would be nice. (leave Friday afternoon come back Sunday night)

This is asking alot, but I have to put you campers to work in this new forum.

Hit the texas parks and wildlife page.. several of the state parks have cabins. The cabins will all have bathroom/showers as well as a kitchen and a bed

:D The KOA @ the intersection of US290 & the Luckenbach Rd. (6miles east of Frederickburg)have a few cabins, conveniently located across the camp road from the shower/restroom facilities. It's bring your own bedding type of deal! Based on this summer, I'd wait a month or two, to let the natural thermostat adjust! They've got the national website access.

Hey John...
I don't think they allow pets, but The Retreat at Artesian Lakes...(old name:Chain-o-Lakes) http://www.artesianlakes.com is "close" and they have some nice cabins. I think you may be able to pay extra for pets..but it is quite high.

I've stayed at some floating cabins on the atchafalaya swamp near Breaux Bridge, La. Thats only a short drive from Houston, but its like a world away. I'll look for the name if you are interested...

thanks for the offer on the floating cabin, but this would not be a good idea for my dogs. My wife and I like to hike with our dogs. Swamps and gators don't exactly mix well with hiking and dogs. It may be a good spot for others following this thread though. thanks again for sharing

When we float (tube) the Guadalupe we always stay at Rio Raft Co. and resort. Not really a resort, they do have a swimming pool but who swims in a pool when you go to the river anyway? They have little cabins/cottages that overlook the river ( about 50 feet to the bank) They also offer campsites, RV hookups and tent spaces. We stay in the cabins, our friends bring their campers. They have everything you would need, tube, raft rentals. I'm not sure about kayaks but I think I saw some canoes. It is a nice little place, although summer weekends are very busy.

Harmon Creek Marina would be a good suggstion. Just outside of Hunstville.
FireFly49 took some pics of the cabins they have,,,, but ask about the pets inside the cabins, The new ones are definately off limits for pets, I am not sure of the other cabins. I think they had 6 cabins there.
