Village creek 8-7-15 to 8-9-15 invite

Post by FishingSETX »

Thinking of doing a 3 day/2 night trip on village creek the second weekend in august weather and water conditions permitting. If we don't get any more major rains before then, the level should be perfect for fishing/camping. I've got plenty of room to shuttle 3-4 extra people and gear and the vehicles can be parked at my house so no fear of theft/vadalism. If anyone is interested, let me know.

Did day trip saturday. Fishing was slow due to higher than normal water levels but still manged to catch 25-30 fish. It would normally be double that!

I have a wedding on the 8th or I would be there. Is it bass fishing or catfish?

Bass and perch during the day. Catfish at night. At least that's what we normally do.

Launching at hwy 418. Taking out wherever we end up. Probably hwy 96 in lumberton. If the current is moving and the fishing is slow, maybe lakeview. If the fishing is good and the current is slow, maybe baby galvez. You also have village creek SP between 96 and lakeview. My wife is doing the shuttling so we can take out at pretty much any takeout. I've done the trip from 418-96 and from 327 to lakeview but never been all the way through in one trip.

Spoke with Perry at East Tex Canoe rental in Silsbee about 50 days ago and he said there was a big pile-up between Baby Gálvez and 96 before you get to the Zoo. I think he said it was just past baby Gálvez where the pile up was.
You may want to give him a call and ask if there has been any updates or ask if portage around it is possible.
He also may be able to help (for a little green, he is in the business) to do some shuttling for you.

I've talked to him and used his services many times. I wonder if the pile up he's talking about is where the creek splits around the island at baby galvez. Used to be a pretty good log jam there and shallow the other way. We always drug over the jam and rode the "rapids" down to the takeout lol

Don't get back till August 6th then jet-lag + dentist + doctor+ wedding etc, etc,
Don't see me getting away for an overnighter until October.
You know how October is, cooler at night than August.

This getting older stuff sucks, but it's better than the alternative.

Well day 2 is over and tomorrow afternoon, it's back to the real world. Sure wish TKF would loosen up on their pic requirements and I'd upload a bunch of pics. If you'd like to see the ones so far, check out

http://discussions.texasbowhunter.com/f ... p?t=539095" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just a quick run down:

Day 1 = 45 fish with a mixed bag of bass and bluegill (mostly bass). Largest one was about 2 lbs.

Day 2 = another mixed bag of 52 fish with the larges bass close to 4 lbs and by far the largest for me on the creek!

Every last fish caught on a small pop-r top water bait staging behind current blocking structure in the main current. The slack pools out of the current have been non productive! The largest fish have come in 12" or less of water where a log has blocked the current flow. You can usually watch them come out, eye the bait and then hit! I've missed quite a few by setting the hook too early!

Just another FYI, the local VFD is teaming up with the NPS and they will be cutting a bunch of the logs blocking boat passage from 418 to 96 sometime soon!

Looks like you had a good run, wish George and I could have made it. Been very busy no Yaking in a while. Maybe can make a trip later in the year, enjoyed the last one.
