Brown & Root flat 8/14

Post by WestTXFisherman »

First report so be gentle. Took the yak out to Brown & Root flats Friday morning. Got out there a little later than I wanted, around 7:30 and had no hits until 10 a.m. in the dirty water where the pipeline opens up into the flat. Got into some nice reds and proceeded to land 4 In the next hour. All on gulp shrimp with a 1/16 jig head. First one was 19”, second was a little 13” one, then a 23 1/2” and finally an 18”. Not many to eat but had a great time getting out in the salt. West Texas is a long drive but I might need to get down here more often.

You did good for a newbie. Good report and photos. Keep up the good work, but don't forget the saltwater fishing closer to home.

I think you did well on your first trip. You worked at it and figured out the adjustments you needed to make to catch some fish. Thanks for sharing your trip.

Shoot, DandyDon, the closest salt water to my house is down around Rockport, about a 7 hour drive.
