Two days of fishing at Costa Rica!
Monday, I went out on the little boat to catch some fish..............to say I was disappointed would be putting it mildly. This is the 29’ Everglades center console:
About all we did Monday was catch bait fish for our trip in the big boat. My first fish was a real prize.
We did get a few fish for dinner last night...............you can keep anything in Costa Rica, but bill fish.
Day 2 fishing made up for day one!
We left in the "Outer Limit" (a 57’ Spencer Sportfish yacht) at 7 am in the morning.
Went about 35 miles out and started seeing dolphin and birds:
Put our lines out and started trolling
By 9 am I had my first sail fish hook up!
And landed my first Sail Fish!!!
To make a long story short, I caught two more Sail Fish by 10 am........(pics by the deck hand).
Then it happened, we hung a 300 lb Blue Marlin.............and he kicked my butt!!
After 50 minutes of this, he came undone!!
Losing the Marlin was disappointing, but we were 3 sail fish out of 4 and 0 Marlin out of 1. I was whipped and told Capt. Johan, " I am done and done". So we spend the rest of the day getting eating fish off the bottom.
Must have caught 15 grouper, snapper and other bottom fish!
The fishing today was great...............but the biggest surprise was when I got back to the marina, the wife informed me she had extend our stay 4 more days...............so I guess I won't be home until Saturday!

WTG Mike. To bad about the Marlin. But hey at least you got a good pull for about an hour. And to Mrs. Mythman on extending the trip.

Congratulations. What a wife!! And congrats on the fish too. I had been looking forward to meeting you this weekend. Know you fairly well from your posts. Thank you for sharing.
You're going to be wore out and need a vacation by the time you get back home.

Looks like an awsome trip
Re: Two days of fishing at Costa Rica!
Mythman that is awesome, Congrats sir on your sails.
One wonders how much a trip like this would cost to pitch it to the boss at home?
You are one lucky man, your wife is something else.

The day after:
Woke up this morning at 4:45 aching all over............knees (against the stern while fighting fish, back, upper and lower and neck). Had to start the day off with Aleve!!! Went down stairs and had coffee out on the patio.............then made breakfast.
Two pieces of fresh grilled tuna with a Bloody Mary.................life in Costa Rica, ain't bad!!!!

These "4 extra days" wouldn't be spent searching for retirement homes now would they??

That reads like it could be an excerpt from Hemmingways "The Old Man and the Sea". :mrgreen:Woke up this morning at 4:45 aching all over............knees (against the stern while fighting fish, back, upper and lower and neck). Congrats!!!
I can only dream of taking a vacation like that and hooking up with both a sailfish and marlin!! When we went on a cruse a few years ago, one of the things I wanted to do was take a fishing trip out of either Cozumel or Grand Cayman, but the wife shot that idea down. One of these days I'll make a trip like that, and maybe be as lucky as you.
