Post by jlai92 »

So im just gonna give everyone the heads up about whats in the surf in galveston..... BIG SPANISH MACKEREL LOVE SUPER SPOOKS JR.

Lost 2 of my super spooks today to the smacks. they were big.

managed to faul hook one after it hit my jig. was a 28"

fished 2 hrs using Super spook jr. while i had it.... lost a pinky corky to a smack too.

Used bone with charteruse head, pink with clear body. super spooks jr.

fished 7-9 then called it and headed to academy to refill my spooks.

bite was good in the am. died about 9.

winds were low

surf wasnt flat but had some small rollers.

water clarity sandy green.

tide was in when we got there. and was still coming in when we left.

used all arties.

Arties used:

Super Spook Jr.
Corky
Saltwater assasin plum with charterurse tail.

A nice way to start the day.

The smack attack was on then! I am sure you will be ready for them next time!!

Are you going to use a wire leader next time you go out for prevention??

not sure, will it affect the topwaters movement ? cause the wire leaders dont seem to flex enough to keep it natural... but if they show up again. silver spoon and wire leader for sure :D

Try this bubble rig, it's a lot cheaper and the Spanish mackerel can't resist them.
