2012 TKFBBR Boat Builders Roundup

Post by Iamdamoder »

How about it? Seems like folks are moving on to other things so we may need someone to spearhead this deal.
The Inks Lake location worked well so I'll suggest that.

Who wants to do it?

Do we have a guy in the area?

Just curious I guess.

Well I'm a definite, Just reread the old threads and double take on the boats that were there.

So as I'm located right on Inks if I can do anything to see this happen I will, be nice to see if Gerald will attend and let us know what retirement has meant for him and his boatbuilding.

Saturday the 12th would be my suggestion.

Thanks for the kickstart Moder.

I too, was reading old threads. Guess I went all polyanna remembering when everybody loved one another and on and on.

Gerald has the experience doing this deal but if he does not wish to do it this year (understandable), then I vote we go with Makeandmend's suggestion and see what reservations are available.

We probably don't have much time to waste with reservations for that busy park.

My sentiments exactly. I'll run into the park and see what's needed from our side.

some good memories from past events, want to see that continue.

The boat building threads are slow right now,but I think thats weather related, it certainly is in my case, things are backing up in my shop waiting for a warm spell to get some epoxy work done :!:

I'm a bit of a lurker, but I'm in the process of building one of Gerald's Challengers and will definitely have it done by then. This has to be kept going. Reading all of the posts from previous Roundups is making me jealous and I look forward to putting faces to fake internet names. Plus, my wife and I will be moving back to Waco this summer and I need to make some new kayak fishing friends.

I'm definitely interested. I think Inks Lake would be great, but it does book up quickly. But there are plenty of lakes in TX.

I was planning on going last year and something came up. I would like to make this one. Inks is about 2 hours away. I need to meet all you guys sometime.

I am rather curious at how many will give the Jem paddle board a try. The water might still be a bit cold

Neon, I'm not scared! The water temp might dissuade others, but if you and I both show up, I'll SUP your babe and you can try mine if you want. The only thing I've learned is that there are so many ways to build a boat that are better than mine, that I almost want to stop and start another...but I've got too much invested in this one. Who else is up for the event?

I contacted Gerald and he decided not to do it this year,I ask him to come that we would be glad to see him.
I vote for Making Mends to go ahead and set this up and I will help any way I can.
Norseman glad to see you posting and welcome.

OK for those wishing to camp or bring RVs reservations can be made at 512 389 8900, this park seems to be busy year round so the earlier you can book the better your choice.

The area we've used for our gettogether is day use and is on 1st come 1st served basis, this shouldn't be a problem, I can head down there early Sat the 12 May and occupy sites so we have water access, for All the boats. :P

For those never having been to Inks before, besides looking/trying out boats there's neat things to see and do for family members as well, Longhorn Caverns, Enchanted Rock, Canyon of the Eagles.
Coopers Pit BBQ in Llano  worth the 30 min drive to mention a few.

I'll have a boat or three for people to try, so mark your calender.

If anyone needs more info/help please PM me, will do whatever I can..

For reference if your looking online at Inks lake state park the meeting place is sites 280 and 279.

I'm going to mark that day down on the calendar. I should have the surfboard done by then also. Think I will slather a few coats of varnish on the Jem paddle board. Make it look new again, have been really hard on that thing.

Right on and thanx Makenmend for getting this deal rolling.

I plan to make the day of it, doubt we can camp overnight.

I'll try to finish my boat by then. If not y'all can see it like I have been paddling it. I have been sanding again. I may have to hire Neon14 to lay down some varnish.

I did a double take to, guess Ron has influence in this regard

This far out with peoples fickle memories ( mine at least )I will repost closer to the event as a memory jogger.

Got 3 boats underway right now, hope to have warmer spells to progress the epoxy work and get them done in time.

MM BOY
Thanks Ron :D

After doing the Colorado freeze trip with my 2 long time friends, and seeing they enjoyed themselves so much, I decided to make them there own boats so we can do more of the same.
Any way they are identical and nothing fancy, the other is going to be a 17' sail boat to allow me to do the TX 120 and other type of events. Didn't think it was of interest or out of place in this forum ?.

I will get some thing put together and start a new thread (don't want to stay in the dog house)
