First Kayak trip
First Kayak trip
Been a TKF member but first post on the TKFSA....Should have my Kayak soon (between Ride 135 & Cuda14, but have to demo the Cuda before making final decision) Was wondering what would be a good body of water in the SA to take it out the first time so I can practice emergency re-entry and just get to know my yak....Was thinking of Boerne lake but would appreciate any other suggestion
Re: First Kayak trip
I've seen people suggest Converse North Park for a first ride. My first trip was straight out to Canyon Lake, but that might be a bad idea if you get it before the PB season ends with the start of school. As long as there aren't a lot of jet skiiers buzzing around and its not too windy, I wouldn't think that any of our lakes would be a bad place to go. Just make sure your boat is tied off somewhere if you go to a bigger body of water. Wouldn't want to swim for an hour to get your yak back if it gets away from you!

Re: First Kayak trip
Boerne city lake is the right choice.
People swim and train out there for those Triathlons, and there are no power boats allowed.
It's common to see people swimming across the middle of the lake.
The water is clear and clean and you wouldn't ever see me in the water at Calaveras unless I just happen to fall in.
Canyon is another as long as you go early to beat the crowds, and avoid the jet skiers and pleasure boaters.
Congrats on joining the addiction!

Go to BCL no power boats. Good place to learn your yak.
Re: First Kayak trip
if you're in the North San Antonio area, you might try the Guadalupe river under I-35.
