Federation of Fly Fishermen

Post by Late Bloomer »

Was wondering how many FFF members we had on this site??? Just returned from tying at the Gulf Coast Conference Fair in Ocean Springs Mississippi and it was a wonderful experience.

There has been a Texas Council of the IFFF for several years now. The Texas Council is currently working to improve public access to Texas rivers and streams as well as other projects. You can get more info on the Texas Council website.

I joined the International Federation of Fly Fishers (IFFF) in 1984 and am currently a Life Member.

The Federation is the glue that holds the clubs together and is the means for dissemination of fly fishing, fly tying and casting instruction/knowledge throughout Texas, and the across the country…

If you are a fly fisherman in Texas you most likely owe a debt to the Federation, whether you’ve ever been to a Federation or Federation club event on not.

You most like have learned knowledge that flowed to you via the largess of one or more of the following Texas Federators:

Billy Munn, Jimmy Nix, Judy and Verne Lehmberg, Michael Verduin, Mike Huffman, Brian Camp, Al Crise, Bill Gammel, Bill Sargent, Slim Mitchel, Big Dale Wilkinson, Al Wilkie, Bill Lambing, Bill Heugal, Dr. Ed Rizzolio, Brooks Bouldin, Diane or Richard Blair, Bruce Sublett, Walter McLendon, Sheryl Knight, Grace Lui, Buddy Price, Jim Freres, Kevin Hutchinson, Steve Flanagan, Kyle Hand, Mark Marmon, Pop’s Sorrels, Harvey Stahl, Chris Summers, Ron Knight, or a host of other Federators from Texas! (My apologies to all of my friends who should have been listed, but whom I left off this list…)

If you like to fly fish, tie flies, or cast a fly rod and you’re not a member of the Texas Council of the International Federation of Fly Fishers, you should join the Federation, check out your local Federation club, or just start a club (I did).

By the way, approximately 50% of Federators are not members of local clubs, but still feel strongly enough to about this organization to join and retain their membership…

I've been an active member of the FFF since 1999. FYI, disabled vets are eligible for FREE membership, but local clubs may charge dues. A couple of years ago, they changed the name to IFFF due to growth in foreign countries driven by the cert casting instructor program. I've benefited in many ways over the years from my involvement. If you're looking for networking with other fly anglers and/or high quality affordable education and skills development opportunities, IFFF is the best thing going...and it is "all species and all waters" oriented (unlike all the species specific conservation orgs).

I have been a life member for nearly 10 years. It's a blast. One of the most enjoyable things for me is tying and seeing friends at the Conclaves and regional meetings in Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

I have been goofing off and not tying as much as I should for the last 6 months; I've got to get started again.

I belong to Contraband Fly Casters located in Lake Charles Louisiana and we are a Charter Club as well. Have only made one IFFF function, the Gulf Coast Conference Fair in Ocean Springs but it was most enjoyable. I plan on attending the Rendezvous on Toledo Bend to visit with some of my new IFFF friends I made in Mississippi.

Your club is a good one with some great people in it, Warren Landry, Ron Forman, Fred Hannie, and others. We have all tied and become friends at the Conclave and Sowbug in Mountain Home and at shows in Texas and Louisiana. They are great people and good friends.

You will enjoy the Rendezvous, it is a blast. All we do is tie, eats, talk to friends, and have fun for a couple of days.

See you there!!

I rode to GCC Fair with Ron and Warren. Fred met us there. Have become very good friends with all three of them. Hope to make Sowbug Conclave next year with them.

I am hoping to get to the Sowbug, too. I've had to miss meetings this year because of a little heath problem and business, but those are cleared up now.
