First legal red in Texas

Post by USCG-Silverado »

I've been stationed in Texas now for a little while and haven't been able to fish as much as I would like. Saturday I finally caught my first slot red since I've been here, and oh boy was it a blast. He measured out at 23". This sucker sure had some fight in him. I caught him in a grass flat off of Keith Lake.

Glad to see you got one and had the chance to go. It should only get better once the water gets back to normal. Keith Lake has been good to me the last three trips. Just have not seen a red in the shallow marsh lakes yet.

@jackinayak, I can't remember the exact name, but I was using a 1/4oz jig head with a green and red swim bait on it, just jigging it off the bottom under the floating grass. It was probably about 3' of water and you could see the reds pushing wakes all around chasing bait.
