02/02/2020 Confederate Reef

Post by mwatson71 »

I typed out a much longer report but apparently took too long to submit it and it logged me off. Rather than re-write it in detail, here are the basics:

Fished from 7:30a to 1p and landed five flounder 15.5" to 17" between 8:30 and 11a. One rat red around 17" at 11:30a. All fish caught on 3" greenback Vudu shad with ProCure Inshore slathered on it. My biggest flounder had a partially digested 5" flounder in its belly. Wind picked up and we were off the water by 12:30.

Man, I can't remember if I've ever landed 5 keeper flounder in one day (other than gigging). Sounds like a good day.

I've learned to ctrl+A then ctrl+C before clicking submit when I make long posts. I've been timed out too many times on TKF and lost everything I wrote as you have. It's....annoying to say the least.

Kudos to Lt. Watson for limiting out on Flounder while I spent 3 useless hours trolling the whole Reef area with two different lures. Maybe I should have tied on a Vudu shad, hello!

At least Watson remains in my good graces because he didn't call me gay.
People get hospitalized for that. Do you hear that, boys?

I saw Watson's stringer and it was full to the brim. I also noted that he seemed to catch all of them in 8 feet of water, but I saw on the Sonor that there was a two-foot hump in the bay right where he was throwing; Watson found that with no fishfinder - just attuned senses, I guess.

I only landed 1 16 inch spec, but I enjoyed exploring some new structure. DandyDon is primed and ready for the next trip, but we need to get past this recent norther; I like fishing the warmups.

Until this year, I had probably caught 5 flounder out of my kayak over the past ten years. Total. I have probably caught 30-40 since mid-October. I honestly think the difference maker has been the addition of Pro Cure Inshore gel to my lure. I fish the same lures as I always have with pretty much the same technique.

As the Senior captain of the Hobie Navy, I proclaim Mr. Watson "the Flounder Pounder." Well-done, sir.

Nice catch!! In response to the timing out of the report and losing everything..... what I have done when I write a report that is going to be long is to type it out on Word first then copy/paste over to TKF. What has happened to you has happened to me a few times back in the day. I totally feel your pain on that one.

8 Mile was closed when we went (for repairs), but we just accessed Sportsman from Stewart Road.

I don't see how Sportsman is closed to the public, since there are houses over there and people have to be able to access their houses. Where did you see that Sportsman is closed?

Sportsman Rd has been closed to the public for years. Maybe going on five or ten now, I would guess. It's not blocked off like 8 mile currently is, there's just no more public parking along the side or at the end. Used to be free to park down there and launch. I don't know of anybody who's been towed out of there, but it's clearly marked NO PARKING.

This is only for the end of the road right by the launch. You have to walk around 200 feet to get past the no parking signs and as long as you park off the road and not blocking anyone's driveway I have never had any issues. It's a nice little walk to your truck but everyone just drops off their gear and passengers at the launch and then goes to park their vehicle.

Ahh, I see. Thx.

Last time I checked, last July, there were so many signs posted around the end, I got the impression it applied to the whole road.

Don't want to annoy the locals of Anderson Ways but a public road's a public road, isn't it ?
