DIYish Waterproof Waist Pack

Post by Neumie »

I wanted to share this somewhat DIY waterproof waist pack I made to use as a "grab and go" versus my Orvis guide sling pack. Realistically, I'm only going to use the pack maybe 10 times a year, and can't justify the cost of the waterproof packs from Orvis, Simms, Fish Pond, etc.

I found the Skog Å Kust FannySåk on Amazon and decided to give it a shot for $35. To make it more fishing friendly I used Loctite vinyl glue and glued a piece of Velcro on the top for a foam patch and a couple molle D-rings to attach a tippet bar. I didn't have a tippet bar, so I made one as well with in about 10 minutes with pieces I had lying around. Add a second retractor and nippers and I'm all in for under $60.

I used it tis past weekend at it worked out great. I did get a little water in the pack, but it was user error as I didn't have the zipper closed all the way. I tested it before and after it didn't leak. We'll see how long the glue lasts, but again, this isn't a replacement for my main pack.
