:P
That was an old desk that used to house the computer. The wife was ready to get rid of it........No way! Besides, this was a hell of a lot more fun than carting than big SOB downstairs.

I know that's right!
I got home today and found Leigh Ann (who did not have to work today  ) had this bookcase ready to go to the garage. Then I saw your post with the desk! :D I think I will need to lighten things up a bit but this has great potential and I have permission.
Thinking of cutting it in half lengthwise and adding a shelf extension of about 10" on the front. Overhead storage and build a light into it. Lighten the color up in the background so I can have some contrast and.....we'll see.

This thread really got me to thinking. What does everyone else use for their fly tying space. The rest of my stuff should be here tomorrow (vise and tools), so I've been trying to think of where I'll store everything. I've got a two year old running around, so I have to find a safe place to keep everything - especially the hooks.

I use a hiproof tackle box from Academy to store all of my stuff (well, most of it). Cantilevered trays for the small stuff and large bottom compartment for the hackles, etc. I don't have a 2 year old but I do have a Maine Coon terror cat. 8 months old and 15# with an attitude. Will start building my tying station soon and plan to make it with doors to keep prying paws out. Can't really blame the little guy though, there is just so much in there to play with!! :P

I wish I could take credit for building it, but it was store bought (at FTU, where else?). It's made by Flex Coat out of Driftwood, Tx. same folks that make all the rod building stuff. It has a 7 rpm motor inside an old Eveready flashlight body. I got it for Christmas last year. I've run mine ever since on one 6v battery. They've got two new models out this year. One runs on AA battieries and the other is a plug-in.

Cabela's has the AA one.

I have a few motors that would make perfect dryers, I just need to locate a few transformers and make a few bases.

I just use Plano lure boxes, but those watchmaker cases would work too

I use a Rubbermaid plastic drawer cabinet that is made for bathrooms. It has 4 or 5 drawers and is made of white plastic and has caster wheels. I picked it up at Walmart for $12-15. I also have a clear plastic tool box with a tray that use for traveling.

Scott
Great set-up!!!
I've always said with a little creativity, some power tools, and the will, a person can get into fly tying for under $347,000.00, instead of spending the 2 mil. it usually takes.
I sacrificed the closest thing I could find to Virgin in Hood County to the fish Gods, so y’all would have a successful trip.
