I'm afraid "formal" just ain't our style.greyloon wrote:Dang Randy, you're going to have start your own formal paddling group.
It was a good morning with a fun group. The weather added another dimension, never seriously threatening but the wind and clouds kept us us aware of the potential. It was LMOL Cruz' first solo in her new Mini-X (many thanks, Dirty Girl Scout. It's a winner!), and son Joshua's first outing, too.
We started in the little cove below the falls.
Cruz likes it, I think...
...a lot! We have a new addict!
more pics coming up.

Here's Joshua waiting to line out behind Billy's (Yackety Yak) friend Sean, and another first timer, Elaine at stage right. Do you think Randy influenced her color choice?

The take-out was at the Hwy 105 bridge, just as the front was coming in.
Thanks Randy for another nice day on the river.

At least you didn't have the front coming upstream at you. That's a problem with a lot of Texas rivers, they are affected by southerly winds, making for some miserable paddling at times.
Actually, the weather was pretty nice yesterday right on up until about 1 pm, at least in Houston. Even then, if you could get out of that wind, it was a good day to be on the water.
Good to see y'all having some fun.

Man...I know I had a good time and met a bunch of good folks. I have been yaking for 8 years now and was amazed at the safety equipment I didn't know existed. Especially the stirrup for deep water re-entry and the paddle float bag. Got to get me one and practice!!! Special thanks to Randy for the orientation and vast amount of shared knowledge.

Even being a big guy I still like my mini even though itdoesn't get use it used to. I'm going to have to come join yall one trip. Randy aren't you near the trinity river? I'd love to float the trinity one weekend as I grew up on that river fishing from an oooooooold beat up john boat with my grandpa. I haven't been back since he passed away 10 or so years ago.

We should try to get a group together and do that. At 59 is where we used to launch after a 5 minute drive to the ramp. Back then though it was just one reaaal long dirt path to the "ramp."Randy wrote:Yes sir, the Trinity is closer than Navasota for me, A good trip is from the dam down to HWY 59.... It is not PUBLIC access to launch but is PUBLIC access at the ramp at US59.
