I have to post for my Dad. He is one of the last survivors of the Pacific Island Theatre of WW2. He was there for Tarawa & Saipan. Fox Co. 2d Bn., 2d MarDiv.
Dad was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down three days before the island of Saipan was declared secure. He was given, at age 19, two years to live. Dad turned 85 two weeks ago. It looks like he may not live through this summer (advanced Leukemia), but by damn he has sure whipped the odds as well as a few Japanese.
Semper Fidelis !
