Wasps, Bees, and Ants

Post by karstopo »

Tied up a few for an upcoming hunting/fishing trip into the mountains. The Chernobyl Ants are by recipe, the others are experimental. I'm making my buddy try a couple. With both of us fishing, and he has a decent amount of experience fly fishing rivers for trout, maybe we'll catch something. Anyway, it was fun tying them and it will really be great to take a rainbow or brown on one.

This particular one won't. Slow sink. Make some that will float.

I'm really out of my element fishing cold water mountain streams. I've had a little success with rainbow trout on a fly in sub alpine and alpine lakes and I have caught rainbows on light spinning tackle in mountain rivers, but I've yet to take a trout from a stream using a fly.

The wasp flies are made out of 2mm craft foam and all but the one with big eyes float and stay floating. I've tied some woolly buggers and other flies. The place will be has trout in the river because I caught them there last year on spinning gear. I'm going to give them a shot

Unfortunately, I can only warm water fish here in South Louisiana but I can go fresh or salt by the flip of a coin. Have never fished for trout other than Speckled Trout. Can't help with any suggestions for cold water Trout. :-( Good luck to you though.
