Depending on how the day is, Me and a Buddy are looking to Launch around 3AM under the causeway.
Re: Causeway or Tiki?
I plan to launch there early am as well.
Once the sunrises move down to the west end of the island to try some reefs.

Re: Causeway or Tiki?
Fished all alone again...Got there about 6:30 pm. Bunch of small trout under the bridge. Fished there until 11 pm with one keeper and scooted around Tiki...and I mean "around" Tiki. Went south side of Tiki and not very many overhead lights but lots of underwater green lights holding trout. Didn't see any reds through all the trout in the lights. Peddled to the west end and went a bit farther west and fished the deep gut about 300 yards from the west bank of Tiki. Anchored there and threw some Controlled Descent Lures and gulp and got a couple of bites but no takers. Went back to Tiki and made my way around the north side. It was good to get out of the wind and current. Hit all the lights on that side as well. Got bites at just about every light and caught a few more dinky ones. I didn't keep count but around 20-25 trout caught with only 4 total keepers. Only got picture of one keeper. the others swallowed the hooks and I had to do quick surgery and get them back in the water. Was back to the public ramp near Fat Boy's around 5 am

Re: Causeway or Tiki?
damn that was a long paddle...what was the current doing at the bridge while you were there? guys are saying buzzbaits/crankbaits make the big boys come out to play...i tried a silver and gold spoon there with no luck but had a few takers on a wounded shad crankbait

Re: Causeway or Tiki?
I had a few hits on a gold spoon and picked up a dink on a 2 3/4" Strike Pro crank bait.
The current was not that bad. The tides were moving slow both in and out. It was the damn wind that killed me going south side of Tiki!
Now there were three waders catching some nice trout on the north end of the causeway. I watched them for a few minutes with my binoculars from the bridge and they were throwing plastics and corkys and catching some keepers. Not a lot but they were catching. Flounder bite should be getting better soon I hope!
You're right it was a long paddle. I figured it up and did 10 miles. LOL

between points 8 and 9 there was one channel that you didnt quite go to the end...that channel has a deep drop rumored to be about 30 ft at the end of it
Re: Causeway or Tiki?
Is anyone going this weekend? I cannot go during the week because of work.

Re: Causeway or Tiki?
Are you talking about the channel with no houses on the middle peninsula? Who told you that there was a 30'' hole there?MobyYack wrote:between points 8 and 9 there was one channel that you didnt quite go to the end...that channel has a deep drop rumored to be about 30 ft at the end of it
Kind of hard to believe as it might be dangerous for the houses near it that close.
I would assume also that it would be a known fishing spot especially that deep that close to houses protected like that. A hole 30' deep dropping from 4' deep would be something that would draw in and hold some fish for sure.

I'll scan it next time I'm there with my side image and let you know. I think someone might have been pulling your leg though.

I'm going to try and take my son out there Friday night on his first night trip, and my daughter on Saturday night in a tandem. Trying to be there around 8pm. Radio on channel 69. Heading out of public ramp under bridge.

ill be with my dad so well likely be at the south jetty or the ship channel
Re: Causeway or Tiki?
I am just going to say...
My plan is to be there Friday night under the causeway on island side to launch right before dark. Hope to see others there.
My crazy work schedule and on call all the time changes things for me all the time. But I do my best to never to stand anyone up.

Re: Causeway or Tiki?
Y'all be careful out there tomorrow and this weekend. The winds are expected to be high and during the middle of tide change that can be rough out there. Try to go with someone if you have never gone out there before for safety.
I found the worst part is the wind pushing waves into your yak while anchored and the tide is pulling you the other way. Can get wash over a lot so make sure you yak does not leak through hatches on decks.

Well guess it is not a great night for a maiden voyage to the causeway.
Guess I will just hit the bay or marsh Saturday morning.
