Making some homemade scupper plugs

Post by TexasGringo »

Just sharing w/the group some homemade scupper plugs.
I got some of those yellow foam golf balls, cut them in half w/a hacksaw, ran some nylon shoe laces through them and voila! scupper plugs.
I spray painted the tops of mine black just for a personal touch b/c all my accessories are black.
Super easy and total cost is about $2 for 8. ($.99 for a pack of 4 foam balls and $.99 for a pair of nylon laces)

Oh and these fit pretty snug in the T140 so i guess any other yak w/similar size holes it will work for too.

Cheers

Kevin

I used foam golf balls for my OK Prowler 13. It beats paying the big bucks for the plugs from OK. I got mine from Academy, drilled a hole and used an eye bolt and lacing. Works great and keeps me dry during the cooler weather. Great tip and works good.

plugs - quick, cheap, & easy

Lowes has a good selection of rubber or cork plugs that work just fine. Low cost and minimal effort.

I used the golf balls for my Drifter except I didn't cut mine in half. I drilled a hole through them, slipped some cord though them and tied a couple knots so the cord would not pull out. Works good for me.

Presto Plug-Cutter for soft-cell styrofoam packing material.
Note: sharpen the inside edge of the appropriately size piece of PVC pipe. After cutting the plugs, run a short piece of 3/16" rope through the plug - which is knotted through a plastic washer.

I found cutting a piece of pool noodle works the best with the Speck.

Plugs at Lowes

Post by Itascaman »

zamarripa.piii,
I have an OK Prowler and also had a difficult time finding plugs that fit. I found them at Lowes.

Ditto on rubber plugs from Lowes. For my SPTW, the number 7 plug fits perfect in the scuppers. Size 4 works for the smaller holes in the tankwell.

I tried the plugs you mentioned.. ..even the golf balls...(did not fit) too small....but since the Speck does not have round holes it was hard to find..rubber plugs.... I could not find a noodle ... Summer is over duh...!... but looking at swimming pool close outs at the local super center... I found some foam Balls... size of a baseball.. actuallyone was colored like a base ball... and I squeezed it in the odd shaped hole and PRESTO... BAM... I had my scupper..! ... 6 balls cost me 3.95...
so now I have two as spares!.. thanx to you guys for helping me keep my "noassatall" semi-dry....
