want to build a poling skiff need help and ideas
Hello I was wanting to build a poling skiff, but don't know were to start. I saw one made by cnreds and some people said that they could make one stronger, less weight and cheaper but did not leave much info. Does anybody have any ideas or comments? Check out this web site

There's no reason to build the same style poling skiff with such heavy wood. It could be built out of 1/4" or 3/8" plywood. You probably wouldn't need as complicated internal framing, especially if filling with foam board or similar. Might even build it with stitch and tape seems, though chine logs may be better.
Another alternative would be to build what's called a poling punt...works the same, just a bit different style. Don't know what weight you are looking at, this one's about 110 lbs empty:

Another suggestion, email Gerald and/or Pogo for ideas. Both are excellent boat builders.

Here's some links to one that I'm building ..... well, I haven't actually started it yet but will as soon as we get settled into our new house (I hate moving). You can pole it or add a small outboard; I just happen to have an evinrude 15 in the garage so I'm going the power route.
Here's the plans:

And another website following another guys build of the same boat:

It may be a bit bigger than what you were looking for, but it gives you some ideas as to what you can do. Good luck!

Hey guys, just wanted to say thanks for all the help!! I plan to use eps styrofoam sizes 12' x 4' x 8" at 2lb desity and then I will fiberglass it in. I will take pics and keep every one posted!! I have a trolling motor for it and some killer lights that I can't wait to put on. Before the spring Flounder run, I will have created the Flounder pounder.

Foam of that thickness enclosed in fiberglass may not need support beams. Its pretty rigid and, depending on the way its glassed, that should provide enough resistance to foot traffic.big little fish wrote:i have a question, if your using the foam in between the top and bottom, does that mean that there will be no support beams at all? or will the foam go in between the support beams
Mr. Feet, sweet little bateau! No reason you can't get there with the outboard and then pole, eh?
JustinFitz . . . did ya look around at Duckworks? Lots of good ideas there. Also, the woodenboat forum http://www.woodenboatvb.com has some nice design areas.
