Re: Never fished the Marsh - Sea Rim State Park
I'd go right to those boat ramps in the state park and hit that first lake named Little Fence.

Same as Timbo, same rivers. Lots of places to fish. Hyalite canyon was my favorite.

Re: Transporting on Pickup Question
Yes, it's fine. I have the 2021 Ranger with a foot longer bed and my Compass sits in there. I use a TBone extender. Just make sure you trail a red flag at the end of the kayak. I've never had any problems whatsoever and I carry it that way all over N TX fishing freshwater and all the way to Galvesto...

Re: Braided line color
The color of the line depends on the user as in if the user wants to see the line or not. The brighter colored lines aid in seeing line movement. To the fish, if you are using a leader, it's a non issue. I've used leader lengths as short as 3 feet attached to yellow braid in clear water to catch sma...

Re: Sportsman road update (not good)
If there are wetlands to be protected maybe Artist Boat may want to purchase it. But from what I can tell they have not been real good about letting the General Public kayak from the launch on Settegast road, where their property is, however I have not checked in a while. There's no parking signs e...

Paddletails, maribou jigs, spinnerbaits, spoons. That area has stripers. Some big ones. TPWD stocks that stretch during the winter with rainbow trout. I fly fish there also for those trout. There wide slow areas and faster, riffles depending on the release from the lake.

Re: Brazos River below PK damn trip
The best fishing is right below the dam and downstream to the Hwy 16 bridge and maybe a mile further.

Re: Feb North Jetty trip, Bolivar
It's definitely doable on a calm day. That's what you should aim for. There's a buoy in the channel that measures the speed of the current on the NOAA website. You should check that as well.

Re: Drum Bay 01/14/23
I was stopped by two GW's patrolling in a boat last year when I was at Sam Rayburn. I was wearing my waist worn inflatable. That's probably why they stopped me because the PFD wasn't easily noticeable. They had plenty of questions about the kayak and then I asked them what areas of the lake were act...

Re: Sportsman road update (not good)
My first post here, but I do have some information. I was coming out of the water on the ramp in my kayak when the city Marshall was there taking measurements and surveying the ramp for the current rocks blocking it. We had a half an hour discussion on the what and why. He stated the intent is to h...

That's a big female. My favorites are 16 to 18 inches.
Re: Buggs
Advice to the Buggs crowd: The rabbit skin that they use soaks up saltwater. After use in the briny, they need to be soaked in fresh water, or the hooks can rust completely away. I complained and they sent me four replacements for the cost of two. Good folks. TexasJim That's a great idea. I always ...
Buggs
I'm a fan of Buggs lures especially since they are made in TX. Can't wait to try these out next summer.

Give Galveston Island SP a try. I caught many mid slot reds. I caught specs and black drum over by the breakwater. Launch over where the Jenkins trail is.

Re: My Kastking reel & the 24
Cheap reels work. I have a $32 Sougayilang I use for bass fishing and I've been wanting to see how it does inshore. It has 22 lbs of drag. My high end Shimanos only have 11 lbs!

Re: A yes or no Poll
Late to the party but no I do the opposite. It seems pretty easy and I’ve never thought about it but when I use my spinning reels I’m comfortable using a left handed retrieve so it would make sense using a left retrieve baitcaster. I’ve never considered it until this year. I’m right handed but when ...
