Educate me on Hobie drives

So I got a used Compass with kick up fin technology. In looking for turbo fins for it, I was amazed at the various models/features the Mirage drive comes in. I bit the bullet and dropped a wad on the turbo fins as I found the stock fins to be sadly lacking due to either size or being "wore out&...

Re: Need input...

My input… get the shoulders stronger and get a paddle back in your hands. :D I like your 1st part about getting stronger...Im definitely working on that! After over 20 years of paddling, the repetition is what wore the joints out (among other things). This last go round was caused by just fishing 3...

Need input...

After 2 shoulder surgerys, Im considering going pedal power and could use some 1st hand knowledge. I know the weight of the pedal boats are an issue but what type/brand of drive system works best in bays and rivers? Is the seating position comfortable to long term pedalling or do the elevated leg po...

Re: Rudder Line Options

From that video, I dont believe you have a cable issue. Something is binding...either contols or the rudder itself. Control cables are not "tight" inside the plastic housing like bicycle cables for example. Id disconnect one or both ends of one side of the cable and move rudder then foot c...

Re: How Come Some People Don't Like Reds?

I cut the gills to bleed them, then they go into a cooler bag with frozen bottles of ice. Clean them ASAP, filet out on half shell, rinse off, vac seal and fast freeze. Holds for several months in freezer(not years LOL). Thaw out in fridge for a couple days before smoking or frying. Good flaky white...

Re: Red Tide

Espiritu Santo was purdy green water, not a hint of any red tide. Got a quick limit on specks then catch and release. The storm Monday night really flushed out the bays but the high tide made it plenty salty again. Tuesday was off but Wed (today) was memorable. Plenty of reds in the shallow grass, I...

Seadrift got torrential rain and storms last night (as did Houston and points SE). I suspect any red tide is no more.

The video on KSAT is canned footage of a red tide fish kill...sensationalism! Other forums are reporting little or no fish kill. Im headed to the coast Sunday and will give my POV from west Matty,Lavaca bay, Port O and Seadrift areas

2023-24 fish regs question

My dealer didn't have the rules booklet so I can't check. What's the daily bag limit on speckled sea trout? I heard TPWD went back to 5 fish, 15" minimium... true? No more adusted limits/lengths depending upon where you are fishing? The online rules list freshwater exceptions but do not show sa...

Yes, there are some good people Ive encountered while fishing. There are, of course, some that are not. Worse was in Austin at Walsh boat landing. Left trolling motor on dock, left, got about 6 blocks away and realised my error. Yep, it was gone and nobody was around. Almost like someone was laying ...

Just curious fellers but, bad things can and do happen offshore. What kind of communication devices do you cary with you in case of emergency? Do you get cell phone coverage? VHF or marine wave radios?

This whole topic has been bantered around for many years... area closures and sea grass destuction. Laws have been passed but the bottom line comes down to personal responsibility. The area is too vast and law enforcement too thin. All the guides Ive been with are very aware of prop scarring and avo...
