Re: San Luis Pass/Titlum Tatlum
Good report. I miss getting out on the yak, my paddling partner, my wife broke her foot and my truck got wrecked about a month ago and have not been able to get out since. Hopefully next week I can give Churchill Bayou and Cold Pass a try again.

Re: Reel service?
In case you need another option, I have had good service from Fishing Tackle Unlimited on Katy freeway, they recently redid old Shimano stradic from the 90's for me and its like butter now.

Nice fish, thanks for the report. I was out there Wed the wind was pretty stiff, out and back actually. No fish but good exercise and real good bird watching.

Re: golf course ponds and lakes
I was fishing a private lake up by College Station this weekend, what seemed to be working was a banana spider looking fly and a Pucks squirrelly.

Re: Red Tide
Was on Christmas bay yesterday no indications of red tide. On the gulf side water was looking good, schools of ladyfish were balling up in the first cut. No visual indication of red tide.

Re: Snook at Matagorda
I agree with you, the Snooks she caught were probably the "Mexican Snook" TPWD term not mine, which typically don't get to slot size but they are chunkier. She said they were appeared to be hanging under Sargssso weed beds, so she presented the bait at the edges of the saragasso ball and c...

Snook at Matagorda
Had a good day surf fishing from Matagorda beach about 5-6 miles from the entry. Kept 5 nice Trout all around 20" except for a 17". But the interesting thing is that wife caught 2 Snook about 12" so we released them. Anyway it surprised me to catch Snook that far north, I guess the wa...

Re: A long but worthy paddle
I carry a handheld floating VHF it is only a 3 watt version, but I think it will work OK for the bay, one may want a 6 watt for BTB depending.

Surfside / Quintana fish kill
Went down to surfside yesterday to some wading for specs, several miles of the beach from the jetties east were littered with thousands of dead shad. They were gone by about public beach access rd 4, but there were still a large number of dead hermit crabs, out of the shells washing up. TPWD says it...

I used 4x8 utility trailer with some uprights and long cross bars works pretty well. I am in the process of making one for myself.

Re: Exotic fish spotted in Galveston Surf
The fish pictured is a rooster fish, I don't think there is another species with that dorsal fin. Interesting as they are a west coast fish. How it got in the gulf is anyones guess, maybe a commercial fishing boat dumped it, more likely it came from ballast water from a ship that traversed the Panam...

Re: Braided line color
I have not noticed a difference in line colors. I will say that my more than middle aged eyes have trouble tying thin braid, but that was not the question, If Im in a hurry on the yak i'll just tie a loop. I have recently bought some bright blue braid so I can see it better, but have not spooled it ...

Salt marsh Larvae
We put kayaks in at the TPWD ramp on Christmas Bay today we worked the area to the west which was a little productive last week. Not so much today, but this is not a fishing report but a question about an observation. I spoke to a couple people who had productive days as they said there were balls o...

Re: Sportsman road update (not good)
If there are wetlands to be protected maybe Artist Boat may want to purchase it. But from what I can tell they have not been real good about letting the General Public kayak from the launch on Settegast road, where their property is, however I have not checked in a while.

I was a mate on a charter boat for many years, at that time it was bad form to out fish the customers, we should be teaching them instead. But I get your message loud and clear regarding gear.

All good answers; the only other thing I can think of is a 12V charging station, and maybe a 30 amp trailer hook up, if allowed by HOA.

Re: BHP rigs yesterday
No its not what I was thinking, I was commenting on a recent trip of yours that did not yield much. I was speculating that the fish knew a storm is coming into the gulf and went deep. I have no data or evidence to support that suspicion. Just a hunch. I know the broken parts of my body react to baro...

Re: BHP rigs yesterday
Ever notice how flocks of birds tend to fly away from incoming storms way before we see the storm. The theory probably does not hold up given the timing of KBs trip. But a big storm like Ian will really churn up the gulf. I went out off of Surfside beach yesterday not very far just past the last san...

Nice find with the NOAA wrecks. I spent most of my life with paper charts, the viewer has lots of good features.

The Kayak moves more than most vessels, so it probably makes it worse. There are some things that help, the patches behind the ear work really well, the wrist bands kind of work too. Dramamine works but makes you drowsy.

Re: Nearshore Rigs coordinates
I review charts using Noaa's viewer quite a bit, one thing I look for is near shore wrecks, and pipelines, many have been covered in sand since they were put on the chart and probably do not represent good structure, but some do form holes. I have stepped in them. Navionics may have the same info I ...

Re: Florida Tarpon/Snook
If you are looking at the east coast have a look at the Jensen beach area. I lived there in the 80's and the fishing was great. Particularly around an area called sailfish point. Its a tricky piece of water if you are kayaking. In the 80's access from shore was dependent on tides, there were times y...

I have to go to Dallas, if Im back in time I'll be there, or on one of the beaches picking up trash. We have found that when pick up trash on a crowded beach other people usually join in.

Re: Beach update, Galveston west end. Finally looks good.
I went out from Surfside beach on Sunday, water was pretty flat and clear. Tide was low but just about to turn I think. I hooked 3 lady fish one after the other on the first pass trolling a Gold Sprite. One strike after that. Then I think the tide went slack and the action died. I tried out past the...

I was in Houston in a meeting with Corp, when someone said you better turn on the TV. The plane cut through our office in NY WT on the 96th. My Mom used to work on one of the upper floors. Anyway we got all our people out because they DID NOT listen to directions that said stay in place, but instead...
