Re: West Bay night fishing

I’ve launched from settegast and fished lafitte’s cove in the dead of night several times. Navigating the channel between eckert bayou and lafitte’s cove can be a challenge but definitely doable. Going from echert to lafitte’s isn’t so bad. It’s the return trip back to the launch that can be a littl...

I’ll try and make. Probably drive down from Houston the day before. Never been BTB in my kayak before so here’s my chance. Looking forward to it.

Yo-Zuri lures on sale at Walmart

Went to the Walmart by my house this weekend and was very surprised to see some Yo-Zuri lures there. They had some 3DS minnows, a popper, a crystal 3D shrimp, and I think one of their small topwaters. I woulda bought some 3DS minnows if I didn't already have a whole quiver of them. Regretting not ge...

Re: 10-27 G Causeway Night Rpt

I was one of the other kayakers out there. Fished until dawn. Like you I had to wade through hordes of small sandies. Eventually switched to topwater lures to cull through all the throwbacks and pull out the bigger fish. Ended the night with seven keeper specs--most all about 15.5" with only tw...

Re: Tiki Island Night Fishing July 21

I've taken to rigging all my lures with a 20 or 30 lb fluorocarbon leader with a loop knot on either end. One end tied to the lure and the other end just the loop. My braid fishing line is tied to a snap swivel. Then when I want to switch lures I just use the loop to attach it to the snap swivel. I ...

Re: 7-29-16 (AM) Galveston Causeway

that lure is a trout killer under the lights. I throw it about 80% of the time when I'm doing subsurface lures. I have about 6 in my quiver at all times. About the only time I change is when the current is really ripping---then it runs too high in the water column to stay in the strike zone. Been ha...

Yeah usually I just fillet trout but my Asian co-workers prefer whole fish. I took orders the day before and they requested any fish I give to them be scaled and gutted.

night time topwater trip

Went on my weekly night fishing trip this time under the Causeway bridge lights. Put in at around 0100 and fished till 0600. The wind was up and it was choppy which made for a wet fishing trip. I've become bored fishing with suspending lures and soft plastics so I decided I would use mostly topwater...

Causeway Bridge fishing

I hadn't been fishing for almost 6 weeks after wrecking my truck. Bought a new one so finally got a chance to get back on the water. Went to the Causeway Bridge and put in at Galveston Bait and Tackle. Got on the water a little after midnight and fished till about 5AM. Wind started off light but pic...

Re: Doubl the limit, double the fun!!!!

Nhantech it was nice meeting you out there. I was the other guy in the Hobie Revo. I managed to hook 6 trout myself. All on the trusty Yo-zuri 3DS minnow. Caught one undersized on a Rat-L-Trap.

Re: Anyone seen an otter around Galveston before?

I saw one night fishing one night around the lights at Jamaica Beach. He was fishing the same light I was. Scared me at first because I only saw him roll on the surface of the water the first time about 15yds away--looked like a giant anaconda had just dove in the water with a body about as thick as...

Re: Full Moon Pig at Causeway

That is an awesome trout. Especially for one caught under the causeway. I fished under there early Mon morning from about midnight to 6AM and snagged a few myself. I can usually manage a few decent sized ones but I agree with Forever Fishing --that is the biggest trout I heard about being caught und...

Galveston Causeway 10JUL13

Solunar charts said last night should be good and I haven't been out in a few days so last night was the night. I launched from Galveston Bait & Tackle and was on the water headed towards the Causeway Bridge by 2330. I saw three other kayakers out there already. The wind was a little up and ther...

Re: 02JUN13 night fishing

These fish weren't caught under the Causeway. I tried one of the beach houses communities further down the island. I used dark colored Gulp ripple mullets. I feel they give more contrast when silhouetted against the green canal lights. By the way the water was thick with comb jellies (ctenophores) t...

02JUN13 night fishing

Decided to do some night fishing after the wind laid down. Got on the water around 1AM and fished until sunrise. I caught a lot of rat reds and a few croaker on a suspending Yo-zuri. Decided to try a tandem trout rig with Gulp ripple mullets and that was the ticket. Ended the night with three specks...

Re: 6/1-6/2 2/3 of a Texas Slam

I usually use the Sampo snap swivels from Fishing Tackle Unlimited. They are pricier but I've never had one fail. I have also tried some other brands from their store that look durable. I learned my lesson the hard way about using cheap snap swivels when I had a nice redfish break one. I like to tie...

Memorial Day night fishing

Decided to do some night fishing at a new location to avoid the Memorial Day crowds and the heat. Was on the water around 1AM and fished until 6AM. Fishing started slow but the bite picked up around 4AM. It was windy but not too unmanageable. I managed to pull in four specks and a rare (for me) flou...

23MAY13 Causeway fishing

I fished the Galveston Causeway last night/early this morning. I got on the water around 11PM. I saw several other kayakers already on the water. I fished until about 4AM. Overall it was slow but I did manage to scrape out these three specks. Not sure how everyone else did. All fish were caught on d...

Tiki Island fishing 09MAY13

Wind was up last night so instead of fishing the Causeway decided to fish the Jones Bay side of Tiki Island. Launched at Fat Boys and was on the water shortly before midnight. Fishing was tough with few lights showing any fish even though many had schools of baitfish. Also the fish seemed very picky...

Re: 02May13 Night fishing Lake Como

The Bubba blade works great on redfish. I was needing something with more backbone than my usual fillet knife which is great on trout but too flimsy for redfish. I got the flexible version of the Bubba and it is plenty stiff enough.

02May13 Night fishing Lake Como

Went out fishing Wed night. I drove over the Causeway bridge and there was a small squadron of kayakers already on the water near Galveston Bait and Tackle which I expected. I decided to try somewhere else. I hadn't fished Pirates Cove in a while so I decided to give it a try. I launched at the boat...
