Re: HOW BOAT IS COMPLETE
:D Preacher, I have been off the site for a couple of years, and I drop by for a visit and see this and I have to tell you that your work is escalating the level of excellence geometrically! I can't tell you how much I like this boat and the love and work that went into it! The skill is obvious! Wel...

Re: May 2015 Flood
I was over on FB, tracking down friends, when a guy posted that they are closing the Horseshoe Bend area of the Brazos, and all services were being suspended as of 8 PM today, so a mandatory evacuation order is in effect. All the gates @ Possum Kingdom are now open, following a quick five foot rise ...

Re: Brisket rubs
Yep...it's awful easy! Mix 1 cup each: Coarse black pepper, Bolner's fiesta brand garlic powder, Gebhardt's Chili Powder with 1/3 cup each of: Cayenne pepper, onion powder, and salt (sea salt or kosher or Morton's is fine, what ever). That should give you four cups. Heavily coat the brisket with the...

Re: Subsurface hard baits
I've always had decent luck with the Cotton Cordell Jointed Redfin (Black over Silver). It runs about 1 1/2 feet and tends to rise very slowly when you let it rest...so you can sort of fish it like a sloppy top water. It works well run paralell to structure (jettys and shell reefs) or coming off of ...

Smoke Mullet
:? Here's a serious question...of sorts. In Florida, smoked mullet is a common occurence with a big following. I know that the Texas mullet is a different sub-species, but has anybody tried doing the same with our Texas mullet??? I'm sitting here looking at my smoke house not doing any thing and won...

Re: Flats Stalker 18
I'd leave it at the current height...the shorter one might be more pleasant in appearance, but the taller one would serve you better...easier to reach from a variety of positions, you needn't bend so far to do whatever needs to be done, etc. JMHO!

Don't let 'em give you a ration...if they're biting on Alpo, artificials, or Godiva chocolates, go for it! heck throw the kitchen sink...whatever the fish want is just right!

I'd go below Wirtz Dam on the north side of the lake. There's a good approach road that runs behind the granite quarry.

Yeah, Shamrock...I'd go that route...what's the old line...might as well do it right the first time, since you don't have the time to do it over! I heard that all my growing up life!

Watching the weather last night between the quarters in the Spurs game they said that Bandera county got substantially less than the average rainfall for the area--like maybe two inches max--Bummer!

Re: Planning a hill country area trip?
It all depends where the rain fell in the Medina Lake watershed. Ten miles east or west can make a huge difference in the amount of runoff into the lake, and I can't tell you where it fell, because that's a little farther west than we get good coverage.SAHunter1983 wrote:Wish Medina lake got more

Planning a hill country area trip?
:D we just finished getting nearly a foot of rain over here in the unblessed regions. It ranged from six inches to over a foot depending on where you were. San Antonio has got way too much water in places it ain't supposed to be...Olmos dam is 80 percent filled as we speak... Parts of SA got less th...

No good deed goes unpunished!
So, I stumbled onto the ammo for a little project, and Ron's recent post stimulated me to get off my duff and do it. I found some very old drop forged knife blanks out of the Sabatier plant in Thierry, FR. Probably barely post WWII, carbon steel, really nice. When I was gathering up the tools to do ...

This was just a temporary fix until my shop goes up.
After these two boats and the hot weather on the way I plan to be camping and fishing not building.

I've got nothing but tons of respect for a man that does that. If he gets the pleasure out of that thing for as long as he spent building it, it's all good! Well done, sir!

:D I'm particularly fond of the red handled brace from Sears (circa 1950). I used one to seat many a recoil pad. Yes, power drills do faster work, but for straight true hole starts you can't beat a hand brace...works especially well for countersinking screw and boltheads, too! Infinite depth control.
