Re: A Boat Cruise and Then a Kayak Report
As far as the kayak goes, I think I’ve made two trips in 2024. Both were one keeper redfish trips. The most recent was last Saturday in Drum bay. IMG_3468.jpeg Pretty crowded out there. I went out at lunch and launched at the mid bay site. Water was good and green and middle level incoming. Wind was...

A Boat Cruise and Then a Kayak Report
IMG_3373.jpeg IMG_3397.jpeg IMG_3403.jpeg IMG_3402.jpeg Went out recently in my friend’s new boat. His old boat burned up in the fire at Capt. Mark’s a while back and it took a year to get the new one. We cruised out down the Bernard up the ICW to the Brazos then out into the gulf. Friend was putti...

Re: Jones Lakes 6-Jan-2024
Very nice. Hard to pass up those mini drains when the water is coming out of the marsh, I certainly can’t resist making a few casts into and around them. I guess most of the better flounder are out in the gulf still or otherwise I bet you’d have a nice flattie or two in your fish bag. Seems like the...

Re: Ten Plus Thirty Equals One
Everything came together - thanks for sharing. Lining fish on flyrod - I'll keep my comments to myself. http://i.imgur.com/jjWwdG5m.jpg?1 I generally let the redfish decide if it goes on the reel. A lot of times I have a decent amount of line out in my kayak at my feet, more than I might normally n...

Re: Christmas Bay 3-Dec-2023
Good food in Thailand. Redfish are never the same. A few years ago, my trip fish was an 18" red, even bringing home a slot limit. But the 18" red was crazy, fast, frenetic, running wide either side of my boat, and tough to bring to hand. This is one reason I love these juvenile redfish, t...

Redfish, a mini bull, overslot, marsh monster, FullSizeRender.jpeg FullSizeRender.jpeg FullSizeRender.jpeg FullSizeRender.jpeg Made a midday motor to my local marsh to cash in on the incoming tide. Seems like that tide combined with warm sunshine after a cool stretch equals redfish. The math was goo...

I don’t know if this RV park has anything you’d be interested in, but it is right on oyster creek not too far from some marshes and the ICW.

Beautiful. I still need to make a trip out to Christmas Bay. I miss that place. I like that redfish vary on their fights.

I don’t know what triggers redfish to completely shut down and lay up, but I too have experienced this phenomenon up the coast. I’ll never forget one time wade fishing in west matagorda bay watching smaller mullet jump from one nearby specific spot. I eased over to the spot and in spite of the sligh...

Very nice! Better trout are nerve wracking with their uncanny abilities to shake free. Seems like I have read here and there from this guide or that expert don’t fish spots, fish sign, but there is no doubt certain areas turn on in certain conditions at specific times of the year. Whatever anyone ma...

11/28 Low Water Redfish
FullSizeRender.jpeg My 23 year old daughter joined me this morning for a redfish trip out around Freeport. The water was very low when we arrived at the launch. The Northeast wind was not all that low and there was definitely a chill in the air. We launched. We fished. We caught fish. We got cold. ...

Re: Christened my kayak
Nice fish. Nice light weight kayak. Someday, I will certainly want to get a 50# kayak, especially if there is a model that is stand up and fish stable.
Good to get out even for a little while.

I’d like to eat a ribbon fish. There’s a place I fish that large ribbon fish are frequently caught. I’ve been to the Asian markets in SW Houston and have seen the belt fish, a.k.a.ribbon fish for sale as a food fish there.

IMG_2784.jpeg Took that sole 16” trout and made an air fryer pecan, panko and herb crusted delicious dinner. Arugula salad as a side. Grew that from saved seed and harvested moments before dinner. Great Report It was a wonderful weekend of fish so far I hope to go a fair amount this week and throughout December, weather permitting. Going to hit some places I hadn’t been to in a while. Late November into December has risen over the years as one of my favorite times of the year to fish. Winter...

This trip’s destination was decided upon in about 10 seconds. That’s the kind of decision I make when I’m not clear about the pattern. I do believe We need another strong cold front or two to shift where the fish will be. I was driving up on the intersection where taking a right meant one set of lau...

FullSizeRender.jpeg A trio of size 1/0 Gartside Soft Hackle Streamers. Kind of a Paul Brown Corky type of offering in that these streamers more or less hover in the water column. They lose the fluffy look the first time they get wet and look at their best while in the water. I use them to fish over...

Just heard from my wife the State Farm agent that they have extended inland their no new homeowners policies to encompass at least most of the greater Houston area including Katy.
