Thanks for the shout-out to one of my favorite burger joints ever. Hut's onion rings were incredible! Someone needs to re-launch that baby.

Book it, Donno. The Freedom Patriot is now repowered with a new Tohatsu 140 4-stroke and the break-in period is just about over. This is the year when we will finally use it to mothership our yaks to some sweet remote backwaters. Given the change in trout regulations, our goal of limiting out at lea...

Re: N. Lake Conroe - Cagle Launch - 3/3/24
I have decided that bass are my side-piece fish from January to April when the winter doldrums and the Spring Transition are in their full effect at the coast. If I need to chase some fish, freshwater is a solid option during this time when saltwater fishing is simply not predictable.

CityFisher: The fee to park there is 5 dollars cash that you put into an envelope and put in a box if no one is working the gate – which is usually the case early in the morning. The parking lot is plenty big. This is a popular spot with the powerboat folks who like the double ramp, so I have only h...

Re: Hobie passport 12 stolen Galveston
UPDATE: I took the boat out yesterday and saw the Passport connected to the junk sailboat next to the ramp. Pictures attached. 1.jpg 2.jpg I am not saying it is yours or it is stolen, but it is odd that it would be kept there as a tender boat, without a Mirage drive. You could get a way cheaper kaya...

Re: Hobie passport 12 stolen Galveston
Sorry about that. I thought it was odd that it was tied up there, seemingly unattended, but then I presumed it was maybe for those folks that live on the sailboats, as I see them use kayaks and canoes as tender boats, but a Hobie Passport seemed out of place since I had never seen them use that high...

I saw one matching this description tied up next to the Offats Bayou ramp on 61st Street around 7 pm. Right where the blue highlight is pictured below:

N. Lake Conroe - Cagle Launch - 3/3/24
II launched the kayak at daybreak at the Cagle recreation area. I trolled northward to the bridge, with two crankbaits at 8 feet - no takers. I worked topwater frogs and a Super Spook Jr. back down the shoreline to the ramp - no takers. I then moved west across the channel and worked topwater frogs ...

JB is a tough launch now. All the parking is private and I hear they may tow, but maybe not in the middle of the night. I think Pirates is your best bet.

Normally, I do my own, but I stripped a screw one time, so I took the Shimano Curado to FTU before. They are okay, but they took months and I had to call them to continually get an update. Another time, I broke a screw off, and I took it in to FTU and they removed the screw right then for no charge,...

Fantastic report, Dave. I don't have the patience for Jones Lake, but you seem to do well there most of the time.
as for Mwatson71, his drought is my drought, as I start today a two-week trial on a case that I have been working on for 4 years. After Jan. 26 or so, I will be out there again.

Thanks for this. I subscribe to Saltwater-recon.com for the very same benefits. I check the parking at the boat ramps I frequently use, water conditions, etc.

Guys - save your gas and sanity. Join salterwater-recon.com and use all the cameras on that site. For 29 bucks a year, it is totally worth it. I use it to check wind, boat ramp parking lot situations and just for fun sometimes.

Thanks for the great report, Deptrai. Reports like yours used to be commonplace around here 10 years ago, but now, we are lucky to get maybe one a month. I am just as guilty, however. I am more and more going in my boat than in my yak, and when I am in my yak, it is usually a night trip and pictures...

Over the last five months, I have missed time on the water with the Senior Captain of the Hobie Navy. Part of it has been my schedule, but part of it has been this issue. It is my fervent hope, however, that the Senior Captain will bounce back in short order and be out there in no time not only catc...

Re: Jones Lake (Brazoria) 16-Jul-2023
Sometimes those black tails could be tailing horse mullet. I have been surprised by that before. If the wake is a side-to-side wake, it is a mullet most likely. Reds and Black Drum tend to bull forward in a straight line. Yes - it is legal to fish with crab and when reds are keyed in on a certain ba...

Re: Never noticed this before
Prof - I have seen them working shallow shorelines like that in the West Galveston Bay marshes in the summer time. I recall one morning I saw some commotion on the side of a shoreline, thinking they were reds busting bait, and when I went over to fish it, there were three rays quickly swimming up to...

Maybe a varnish or shellac to the wood would be a good idea. Whatever they use on outdoor decking, perhaps also? Thompsons water seal?
