Re: Sportsman Road Launch blocked!? What’s the deal
I'm not sure that accusing a guy of being a liar and a fraud on a public forum is a good start. Especially if you don't know who he is yet. Your intent may not be to dox the guy. But I can easily see a helpful poster innocently telling us who the guy is. That's doxing, and I hoped to nip it before i...

Re: Sportsman Road Launch blocked!? What’s the deal
The premise of your argument is that the guy lied. That's virtually impossible to prove, even if he did. The premise of my argument is that even if there was fuel theft, the city was still wrong to block access to a public area to the detriment of the majority, in favor of the few. That argument doe...

Re: Sportsman Road Launch blocked!? What’s the deal
I don't know that doxing the homeowner is the solution as much as filing a complaint with the city for shutting down a PUBLIC resource for the benefit of the few. That seems awful close to conversion to a non-lawyer like myself. Let's face it, the homeowner was just doing what NIMBY's do. There's vi...

Re: Beach update, Galveston west end. Finally looks good.
Update as of Friday afternoon is that the surf is gorgeous at the Sea Isle beach.
Green(ish) to the first cut and tiny waves. We'll have to see if it holds up through the holiday weekend.

Re: Sportsman Road Launch blocked!? What’s the deal
Do they have the authority to do that without soliciting input from the public? If so, who do we need to vote out next election? I don't think this is anywhere near over, nor a done deal. It is, after all, public property with a long history of public access, predating those homes- converted now to ...

Re: Sportsman Road Launch blocked!? What’s the deal
Interesting... Galveston county tax maps say that Galveston City owns those 2 sliver plots. Picture.jpg I'm not claiming that's the case, but it wouldn't be the first time a homeowner has taken matters into their own hands and blocked what they considered a public nuisance... Some enterprising young...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH9tpe2uMs4 This looks like alot of work. It would nice addition to the house. I love that guy and some of his projects. This one looks great as long as you already have a floating section of dock to attach it to. Especially if you have kayakers with limited skillset...

Re: Launching Kayak from dock
I was watching some iCast 2022 videos and saw several of these in the demo area of the convention: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO6ZcnjjnWw I have no idea how much they cost. Looks like the kayak specific part is around $1,400, plus the cost of the floating dock configuration you'd attach it to....

Re: Launching Kayak from dock
There's a ton of YouTubes for different systems, none of which I found that met my needs and budget. Some of them cost more than all 4 of my kayaks put together. Others didn't allow for tidal (or drought) variations in water level. Most of them precluded using the dock for tying up a regular boat. A...

Re: Freeport 28-Aug-2022
Thanks, Impulse. I like to think we are nice guys. This board is filled with a pretty good group of guys. I’ve met several now and haven’t been disappointed yet. Dave, you are welcome to join me on any night trip and I am fairly certain I could help you find that first keeper. Night trips are ideal...

Re: Freeport 28-Aug-2022
You need to hook up with the Hobie Navy and join them on one of their nights in the canal lights. Now's a good time of the year if you slather on the skeeter repellent. I've met them at the Sea Isle boat ramp and they seem like nice guys... That's just a hop and a skip (and a $2 toll bridge) from Fr...

Re: 8/25/2022
Yesterday (Saturday) around 9:00 AM, a plane flew by the canal in Sea Isle so low that I thought it was in trouble. I was headed out anyway so I followed its path to Terramar, only to see it coming back with vapor coming off the wingtips. It was the mosquito plane. They have been baaaad since the re...

Re: Salt Lake in Rockport
Congrats on the house! I've always looked at Salt lake as a better spot for drum then reds but that could be just me. Which I personally enjoy catching 18" black drum for eating so I should fish over there more. There's just so many spots to fish it's hard to get to them all. I don't know how ...

Re: Outdoor atorage
Leave it bottom up in the sun and itll probably pop itself back out. That sounds like a reasonable plan, so we've tried that. No bueno. I've thought about building a temporary bulletproof cradle for it, filling it with water and leaving it in the hot sun, hoping the temperature and weight of the wa...
Re: best way
If I'm staying on the island where the speed limit is 45 and any trip is less than 30 minutes, I don't use bow and stern lines. I've stuck my hand out the window at 70 MPH and have no doubt that a good gust could fold a long kayak in half. Besides that, there's always a risk that one of the straps w...

Re: Corpus Christi Area - Aransas Pass Area - Living
I lived in Corpus my first job right out of A&M back in 1982 and enjoyed amazing fishing until the freeze. We could leave work at 5:00 and catch our limits wading before the mosquitos carried us off at dusk. But we had to know the spots and patterns. Anyone coming down for a weekend was at a dis...

Re: Outdoor atorage
The reason I'm so adamant about good longitudinal support for long term storage is because this is what happens to a Hobie that's stored outdoors on 2 crossbeams instead. It's on a 2x4 longitudinal cradle now, but the damage was done years ago before I built the cradles. This one belongs to my siste...

Re: Outdoor atorage
Here's some photos of a yellow Hobie and a red flat bottom expedition kayak on my 2x4 racks. (Sorry if the photos are sideways) You'll notice that over time, the 2x4s bend to conform. You'd have a hard time convincing me that 2 points of lift by 2" wide straps would offer better support over th...

Re: Outdoor atorage
I'm not a fan of racks that support kayaks in 2 spots, especially out in the sun where they'll get hot and warp (oilcanning). Driving around Sea Isle, I see lots of kayaks stored outdoors that are completely ruined by heat and warpage. It's especially bad when the kayaks fill up with horizontal rain...

Re: What just happened that there's half a dozen shrimp boats?
My plan (open to suggestions) is to pull the small 25" net behind my powered canoe for an hour or so. Then there's the decision tree: If I get nada, I'll reevaluate the location I tried and maybe try some different area types. If I get even enough for a shrimp cocktail, I'll fire up the big boa...

Re: Galveston canal night run
Impulse, what do you plug your 12V lights into? Some sort of power inverter hooked up to your 120V on your house? Here's what I use. Brand name changes because of availability, and there are several vendors out there. My lights pull 50 watts, but I use the 150W power supplies so they run cooler and...

Re: Galveston canal night run
That’s a pretty cool setup, impulse. Although I think we’re going to stay with no lights. We live at the end of the canal, and the lights tended to attract people in pickups or golf carts who would drive on our lawn and rut up the grass and break our sprinkler system to fish over them. Don't feel a...

Re: Galveston canal night run
Impulse do you mind sharing the method you use to effectively splice your cable together so that the splice is completely waterproof? Finally, I use several wraps of plain old electrical tape. It's important to start the wrap close to the connectors, and each successive layer gets longer and longer...

I really like this thread and your get up and go, Impulse. It's fun to read about your "wild hair" adventure, so I hope you keep us updated! And maybe those who throw live bait can pop by your dock to pick up a quart using the TKF Kayakfishing discount! Thanks for the words of encourageme...
